Cruisin' Classics at Festival Days Crulsip' thru Summer Is a theme for Festival Days 1995, and the Cruisin' Classics Car Club members will be lining up their cars on Queen Street for all to see. Ed Smale of Pojt Perry will have this classic 1956 two-tone Chevy Bel Alr on display. Ed Is very proud of this Chevy, which he says runs just great. He restored it himself after bringing it from Colorado In pleces. Last week Ed's Chevy took third place out of 1400 1956 Chev models at a show In Buffalo. 'The best in the world coming to town Some of the best fastball players in the world are coming to Port Perry this week. The national team from New Zealand, the Roadrunners from Green Bay, Wisconsin and the Toronto Gators with legendary pitcher Darren Zack will be in town Wednesday and Thursday evenings (July 12 and 13) for a series of exhibition games organized by Port Perry Mingr Softball. The real winners, of course; will be fastball fans froma] over this part of Ontario,.who will have an unprecedefited opportunity to wateh these teams show off their skills on the diamond. This will be the third year Port Perry Minor Softball has organized an international exhibition in the community and Dave Kay says it has "evolved into something even larger, and more exciting for fastball enthusiasts across Ontario." i will get neopen about 6: 45 PM this Wednesday (July 12) at Port inter | teams in the world just might be a way to get baek on track. Shortstop Larry Pilkey and outfielder Steye Connors from the local Anfrim House team will be jn the line- -up for the Stars, as will Rich Burkholder and Jeff Card from the Port Juniors. Card is listed as an outfielder, but he just might see action from the pitching mound. In game two that evening, the New Zelanders will tackle the Greenbank Gamblers, currently sporting a 9-3 record in the Oshawa City League. After a hot start this season, the Gamblers have cooled down a bit in the last couple of weeks, and the once-in-a-lifetime ghance to meet one of the top Foster said the team will work very hard against New Zealand «0 put on a good show and come up with a good game for the fans. Ace hurler Mark Goreski will likely get the start on the mound with Byron Barenieksi seeing action in the late innings. Game time for "the Gambler-New Zealand tilt is set for 9:00 PM. On Thursday night (July 13) a fastball first will take place in Port Perry when the Gators and Roadrunners tangle in a doubleheqder that starts at 7:15. Gators are the 1993 ICS champs and the Roadrunners won the ISC title in 1994 over the Gators. This will be the first time two ISC champion teams have faced each other in an exhibition game. Darren Zack, rated the best fastball pitcher anywhere will see action for the Gators as will Oshawa native Brad Underwood. As in the past years for this exhibition, Water Street will be closed to vehicle traffic both evenings. Special bleachers will be set up on the street to give fans a great view of the North Diamond. This twin bill will be more than just an exhibition of fastball, said Mr. Kay. There will be food booths, a refreshment tent, a "pitching zone" for the youngsters, 50/50 draws, and ample opportunities for autographs from the players. And as part of the opening ceremonies Wednesday night a group of New Zealanders living in Toronto will put on a Maori concert party. From the opening ceremonies this Thursday evening (7:30 PM) at the Queen Street stage through til Saturday night, there is a huge number of events that will appeal to parents, the children and grandparents as well. Here's just a sample of what's in store for the kids. On Friday morning, the Kiddy Parade will start at 10:00 AM at Queen and Mary Streets and finish in Palmer Park for a Teddy Bear Picnic. Don't forget your teddy bear. The Amazing Maze in Palmer Park will be open all day Saturday, there is a three on three basketball competition, and everybody's favourite Polkaroo and Markus will perform for the youngsters in the Festival Tent starting at 10:30 AM. If you've got a favourite pooch, don't miss the always popular Mutt Show at 10:00 AM in front of the Post Office. MC Doreen Kendall and judges Marva Collins and Scugog councillors Ken Carruthers and Ken Gadsden will be busy measuring tails and ears and gazing into the eyes of those adorable mutts. Lots of ribbons and trophies for all categories. There will be free face painting and a great show by the Magic Menace and Lucy the Clown. Cruisin' Thru Summer is the theme of Festival Days this year and Port Perry's own Cruisin' Classic Car Club will have their vehicles on display on Queen Street. This is a great chance to see these classic cars (and trucks) from the 50's and 60's up close. Club members have invited - friends to bring their classics to Port Perry for the show as well. If you've got an itch to go dancin' this weekend, the Festival Tent in Palmer Park is the place to be. On Thursday night, the local band Prior Convictions and Port Perry DJ Pete Kneale will provide the music from 8:30 on. Friday night in the Tent, come dressed in 50's or 60s attire and enjoy a Still Cruisin' Party with the Wolf Band. And on Saturday night, rock and roll to the sounds of Johnnie Lovesin. Local bands are scheduled to perform Saturday from noon to 5:00 PM in the Festival Tent. For the teen-agers under 19, check out the street dances Friday and Saturday nights on Queen St. featuring Mr. Slumber and DIVE. It promises to be a fabulous summer weekend.
