wm» 4 -- Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, July 11, 1995 Town Hall 1873 needs work to meet fire code It could cost as- much as much as $10,000 to bring the Town Hall 1873 theatre into compliance with fire code regulations. A recent inspection of the Township owned building at the corner of Simgoe and Queen Streets in Port Perry came up with nearly six pages of recommendations. Scugog Mayor Howard Hall said he expects the costs will have to covered by the municipality. "Yes, it could be very expensive," he said Monday afternoon after the inspection report was tabled at a meeting of Township council. Dave Sparling, property manager for the Town Hall Committee said there is not a lot of cash available, and that could mean going to to the user groups for financial help. Mr. Sparling had not seen a copy of the inspection report when contacted at home Monday evening. i Scugog Fire Chief Richard Thom Doran joins Scugog Citizen as advertising rep The publishets of thesScugog Citizen are pleased to announce that Them Doran has joined the staff as a full time advertising sales rep. He is replacing Chris Hudson who is leaving the Citizen this week after nearly three years to take a new job as advertising manager with the CCG group in Uxbridge. Chief Miller said the Fire Department is prepared to be reasonable in setting time limits to have the work done, provided the department is satisfied that a concerted effort is being made to meet the irements of the inspection report. "The department doesn't want to be any kind of ogre over this," he said, adding "but we want to make sure the public is safe in a building that is over 120 years old." The inspection report calls for emergency lighting in several areas of the building;illuminated exit signs; a closure door between the main entrance lobby and downstairs lobby; panic hardware on exit doors; portable fire extinguishers throughout the building; - proper storage containers for | combustible materials; an inspection by Ontario Hydro of the electrical system; the repair of fire separations in several areas of the building; aisles in the new raised seating area; and the installation of a fire alarm system including smoke and heat detectors.
