Gambler bats still hot and cold The Greenbank Gambler bats have been on vacation for the past 3 or 4 weeks and on Monday night in Oshawa the trend continued as they lost to the . Oshawa Juniors by a 2-0 score But on Thursday night in Ianson Park in Greenbank the Gamblers seemed to regain their batting eye as they turned a 1-0 deficit to the Markham Waxers in the 4th inning into an eventful 6- 1 victory. This was a welcome sight to the Gambler management as the club was losing close games due to a lock of run production. The 2-0 loss to*Oshawa was typical of the team play recently as Oshawa scored twice in the first inning and kept Greenbank off the scoreboard, as the Gamblers wasted a good pitching effort by Byron Baranieski. And in Greenbank on Thursday the Gamblers appealed to still be in their slump as Mark Goreski gave up a lead off triple in the first inning and their next batter promptly singled him home for an early 1-0 Markham lead. But Goreski settled down after that and shutout Markham the rest of the way. In the 4th inning Don Beaton got the Greenbank squad started with a base hit and after being sacrificed to second by Baranieski, came around to score on Trevor Till's long sacrifice flyball. Troy Davey and Mark Goreski also drove in Gambler runs in the fourth inning for a 3-1 lead. The Greenbank gang struck again in the fifth for a pair of runs on hits by Steve Durham, Colin Newell and Byron Baranieski. Brian Till closed out the scoring in the sixth on a line drive homerun to straightaway centre field The past week saw the welcome return of first sacker Trevor Till who has been sitting out the season due to back problems. But he had a hit in Oshawa and a sacrifice RBI against Markham which is great news for the Gambler attack. This week the Club is in Richmond Hill on Monday night and Oshawa Mickey Finns visit at Greenbank this Thursday. Friday night the Gamblers start the O.A.S.A. Elimination Playdowns in Napanee at 7:00 p.m. with their first game at the North Fredricksburg Complex which is seven miles south of Napanee. Game 2 of. the tournament is at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with other games to be determined by win or loss.
