Port travels to Pickering Monday night for a league game and then on to Campbellford for their OASA game. Good luck boys! Squirts tear up opponents 12-1 19th, Scugeg/Port Perry's Fastball Squirt Rep team travelled to Woodbridge for a York Durham League game. Several of the moms (including Coach Kathy) pitched in to help out and our team responded to their help with a 12-1 victory. Cory McQuade made his coaching debut in this game too. Adam Lamb and Mike LeFort each collected 3 hits, Tim Jones and Matt Skerratt had 2 hits each while. Jeff Kane and David © Akermanis had singles. Mike Koury drove in our first run with a 'sac' fly to LF. Tim pitched a 2 hitter for the win with 5 walks and 17 strikeouts. Pocket, Koury and Hawk executed a 'run-down' play in the final inning: Pocket and Gunner made a tag out at home in the 2nd inning. ' On July 22nd, the team travelled to Cobourg for a tournament. In this one, Jeff Represented his team well in the Gold Glove contest. The team played 3 games, winning the first two and called down on the Cobourg beach to complete a very pleasant day. : The Legionaires opened the Tournament against Newmarket , who' played very solid ball defensively. Matt Skerratt doubled while both Tim and Mike LeFort singled. Devon Howsam earned 2 walks. Cory McQuade played well in the field and showed continued improvement in batting contact. Tim pitched the win on a 4 hitter with 1 walk and 12 strikeouts. Devon made a flyball 'out' in RF. Matt Fraser started in LF for Port and continues to learn the subtler points of competitiveball. The team immediately moved to another diamond and faced Belleville without the benefit of a break. We gave Belleville some openings and they went up 2-0 in the second but in the bottom of the inning we tied it up after 2 hits and a heads-up steal of home by Tim Jones while the Belleville coaches were arguing with the umpire: The Blue and Gold went on to a 10-2 win with a 5 run final inning which included a 2- bagger by Luke Pilkey. Adam, Jeff and Matt S. gll had 2 hits. Mike Koury, Mike LeFort and Tim had hits as well. David got on with a walk in the last inning, stole second and came all * the way home on the overthrow to second. Tim pitched the win again and allowed 5 hits, 1 walk, while notching 8K's. This was a goofy type of game but a win is a win. Our 2-0 record meant a win over our next opponent would put us in the Championship game but unfortunately our next game was against Willowdale who eventually won the tournament. Willowdale may perhaps be the strongest squirt team in Ontario and their depth on offense and defence was too much for our Legionaires to handle as they white-washed us, . There were a few plays to be proud of by Port howeber. Luke relayed a deep ball in RF to Lambo who fired a rocket to catcher Matt Skerratt for a tagout at home to spoil a homerun bid in the second. Mike Koury made his best outfield catch of the season on a long, run from LF in the third inning. Later in the inning Tim got a glove on a hot grounder up the middle; it deflected to Mike. Wiseman and Adam Lamb continues to be vocal and 'on the ball' at all times. Tim lasted for 8 innings.in his third start of the day while LeFort took over on the rubber and Koury replaced hardworking Matt Skerratt behind the mask. Mike coaxed 6 fielding outs from a potent Willowdale batting order. Overall, the Legion squad has come a long way in. their . competitiveness over the season and hope to put their teaching to good use as they start their OASA playoff round against King City at home on July 25th at the - Water St. Diamond at 6:30pm. Your cheers and support of our hard-working team will be appreciated.
