Healey, who was staying with the Buiter family in Vinkenbuurt, came this day with his wife at our school to tell his experiences of the war. He has liberated the cities of Nijmegen, Deventer and places near the Afsluitdike. Once, he was very, lucky: He and two other soldiers were lying in the woods, then there was shooting and the soldier in front of him and the one behind him have been killed. It was for him as being near the edge of the world. "I was lucky," Mr. Healey-said. It took him more than ten years to forget about the war. We can imagine that. During the war he lost more than 460 friends. When he told us that, we were frightened. Mr. Healey was an infantry- man in the Third Division. A Division is about 5000 soldiers. At the age.of 19 he started in 1994 as a voluntary training of about six months. From Canada, he went to' Scotland and' England. Then after an illness he went to France, Belgium and Holland and stayed in the 'area of Nijmegen. EY During the fights, he mostly sleeped in holes in the ground and that was of course very cold. And there*was always .-the'risk to be killed. After the war Mr. Healey had to got to Germany until June, 1946.He served the Army for more than two and a half years and had been fighting for more than eight months. It was an instructive morning.
