Retired school teacher Carol Edgar told the Citizen she recently gave her Visa number to America On-Line for what she thought would be the purchase of air time for her home computer. A few days later, Visa officials called her to verify her change of address to a Westfield New Jersey When she said "no, I have not changed my address to New Jersey," she was told somebody 'had used her Visa number with her name to order $7400 (US) worth of computer parts. She nearly fell out of her chair with surprise, and luckily Visa was able to cancel her card and the $7400 order. Mrs. Edgar said she was at first hesitant about punching her Visa number into the system, but agreed because she thought it was "well protected" with key words and codes Visa officials told her a "hacker" was able 0 access the system and get her name and Visa number. "I thought it would be secure, obviously it was not," she said in an interviews She called police jn Westfield New Jersey, told them the story and was told that 606 Arlington Ave. (where the computer equipment was to be delivered) is a private residence.
