Mark Goreski and Byron Baranieski teamed up on the' Greenbank mound in Aurora but Baranieski is still nursing a sore shoulder and only tossed three innings. Don Beaton and Ray Kurhan led a 15 hit Gambler offense with three hits apiece with. Troy Davey, Chris Burkholder and Paul Goreski each having a pair of hits. In Greenbank on Thursday night Mark Goreski pitched the win over the Oshawa Juveniles as he scattered 11 hits during the game and his teammates belted 12 hits off of Oshawa's John Sharp in an 8-5 final score. The Oshawa team were just , back from winning the silver medal in the Canadian Junior Men's Championship in Vancouver B.C. ( a fine showing by the Oshawa club). Brian Till had the hot Greenbank bat in this game as he collected three base hits while Chris Burkholder had a pair of doubles and drove in three Gambler runs. At the N.A.F.A. Tournament in Toronto on the weekend the Gamblers played well but lost twice at the Kew Beach Park. With Byron Baranieski still on the injured list, Greenbank had recruited Mike Crawford to assist Mark Goreski with the pitching chores but just prior to the game Crawford was ruled ineligible to play by the N.A.F.A's Jeff Shaw. Shaw claimed that Crawford had played two games with the Waterloo Twins this season and could not play in the N.A.F.A. tournament. This threw the entire pitching load to the Gamblers Mark Royals nip Port Juniors by a score of 6-5 The sponsors for this sports report for the Junior Merchants are: Classic Hot Dog, XL Gas, Haugens, Williamsons GM. After a busy but successful period of ball, the Port Juniors had only one game this week against the Scarborough Royals, one of the top three teams in the Oshawa and District Men's League. Scarborough went ahead quickly by scoring three runs in the first and two runs in athe second. Once up-by such a scommanding lead, the home team showed their class by letting up a bit. Surprisingly to them, the Merchants were not down and out, and made excellent use of their third inning at bat. With five gingles in a row by Smart, McBride, Rich Burkholder, Ryan Burkholder and Card, they proceeded to score three runs. Then Venning, with a single, allowed two more base runners to cross home plate to tié the game at five. In the bottom of the third, Scarborough scored one more run to go ahead by 6-5.
