i \ wy 24 -- Scugog Citizen Tuesday, August 22, 1995 => Campbell Electric prevails over Travellers They started strong and ended strong justly fits the Campbell Electric senior softball team. Their only hic up to a perfect season was a"mid season tie against the now pesky Marlin Travel team. Their overall record of 15-0-1 (.969) ranks them with the best. The long ball proved to be a valuable weapon as the Electric's hit 10 round trippers as well as at least 1 triples. Campbell's opened with a convincing 28-6 win over Marlin Travel as the Travellers needed gametime Squirt call-up Jessica McLaughlin and Mite call-up Shawn McNamara to fill their roster so the game could be played. ; Ryan Whittick and Deryk Campbell hit homers for the winners while Trish Haertel had a lst inning triple. Leading the cause for Marlin's was the exciting base stealing of Chris Bronson and the excellent back catching of Carla McLaughlin. Marlin's also send a special G thanks to call-up Jessica McLaughlin and Shawn McNamara for filling in as last minute replacements. McNamara also collected a well grand slam. Pam Goble of the Hawkeyes showed her power executed bunt single and played some strong defense at second base, against the big fellas. Homeruns a plenty helped Campbell beat the Hawkeyes 26- 17 in Sat. am play. David Bauer and Darryl Dean had grand slam round trippers for Campbells while Josh Martyn had 2 HR.s for the Hawkeyes including a dn In the C and B Senior Division Campbell Electric defeated Marlin Travel 23-12 In the final tournament played on Saturday. Back from left Dave Bauer, Trish Haertel, Amanda Drew, Aaron Gimblett, Cameron Vernest, Elisha James, coaches Tom James and Donna Drew with sponsor Rick Campbell. Not present Deryk Campbell. Sean Warren and Aaron Gimblett hit home runs for the winning side. Lots of action going on at the Scugog Soccer Fields UNDER 6 Jackman Co-ordinators vs Ray's Towing This was a close game with a final score of 2-2. Alyssia Boomhour scored both goals and Craig Sylnieks and Elisa Boyd played very well for Jackman Co-ordinators. Great goaltending by Layla Keyes- Renaud. Big V vs Ball & Callery An excellent performance by all Big V members as they defeated Ball & Callery with a score of 1-0. Outstanding goaltending by Stephany McKay and Darren Dallas earned them a joint shutout. Codie Young scored the only goal of the game with help from Sarina Cormier, Lacey Churchill, and Zachery Malydn. UNDER 7 Pineridge vs Manvers Pineridge had a big 11-0 win over Manvers last week. Goals were scored by Jimmy Breslin (2), Brandyn Hazelton (1), Stevie Honey (1), and Alex Tillart (7). Legion vs Haugen's BBQ It was a great game for the Legion as they had four different scorers contributing to their 4-2 win. Glenn Baker, Randy King, Stefan Zochodne, and Nicholas Weisflock, each scored once. Devon MacLeod scored twice for Haugen's. Smitty's Sharks vs Lake Scugog Lumber Scoring for Smitty's in their 5- 2 win were Luke Pither with 4 and Brent Henry with' 1. Jared Olsen scored two goals for Lake Scugog Lumber. J&D Carpentry vs Classic Aluminum Classic Aluminum won 3-0 over J&D Carpentry. Troy Wagg scored 2 gaols and Michael Cooke with 1. Good effort by J&D Carpentry. UNDER 9 Port Perry Craft & Gift Show vs Scugog Rentals Despite a solid two way game from Scugog Rentals' Sheri Currie and strbng defensive play from Kyle Jones, Craft & Gift Show were still able to score 9 goals. Matt Charron scored 4 and Chris Charron scored 5. Scugog Rentals had some great goaltending from Kyle Jones and Jeff Rankin. Burketon vs Bank of Montreal The Bankers sweated their little buns off running all over the field with no spares at all. Great efforts by Danielle Bourgeois, Kimberley Wilson, and Erica Bulloch. Goals for Burketon were scored by Adam Phillipe (4), Michael Fisher (3), Betty Mills (1), and Alex Henderson (2). Tremendous effort from Kristina Wiech, Kaitlynn Wiech, Ben Darling, and Wil Darling from Burketon. The final score was 10-0 in favour of the Burketon team. Manders vs VanCamp & Kellar A very rough game resulted in Manvers' 3-1 win over VanCamp & Kellar. Ryan McMullen scored twice and Darryl Short scored once. Tfavis McAllister scored for VanCamp with the assist going to Fiona Barass. Great goaltending by Dustin Eldridge and good defensive work by Stewart Medford for VanCamp. Roger's Automotive vs Antrim House Despite hard work from the Roger's team, Antrim House were able to score 9 goals. The scorers were Aaron Bray (4), Chris Boomhour (2), and Tamar Lunshof, Kyle Geer, and Julie Tapper each with one. Hayley Landry played very well in het for Roger's and Andrew Greco also put forth a great effort. Port Perry Metals vs Dairy Delight It was a super game played between these two teams last week. Great defence by Matt Robinson, good goaltending by Hayden Fish, and a fine effort by Jennifer Blair resulted in Port Perry Metals' 5-1 win. Goals were scored by Lakelan Gould (1), Andrew Pegg (2), and Cameron O'Connor (2). Katelyn May scored the lene goal for Dairy Delight. Village Decor vs Raglan Welding Although held scoreless, Raglan played hard and didn't give up through their 6-0 loss to Village Decor. Extra effort was shown by Dana Romeril and Shanalynn Robinson. Also excellent defensive work by Chris Giles. Scoring for Village Decor were Glen Powell (4), Leanna Tillart (1), and Samuel Guenther (1). * Nuts About Chocolate vs Scugog Rentals Scugog Rentals gave an all out effort and were able to beat Nuts About Chocolate 4-2. Mike Wallace scored two goals, Russell Tracey scored one, and Britini Smith also scored ohe for hitting 2 homeruns. A Other offense gery" fox Campbells were the 3 hit games supplied by Amanda Drew, Elisha James, and Cameron Vernest. Defensively Amanda Drew played well at 2nd while Deryk Campbell made an amazing catch at shortstop. Hawkeyes defense was led by Pam Goble at short and the good pitching of Ryan Prescott and Andrew Marsh. Campbell's assured themselves a berth in the final with a 16-14 nailbiter win over Don Frew & Son. Again 3 homers and 5 triples led the hitting barrage. David Bauer, Aaron Gimblett and Deryk Campbell provided the base clearing power while Amanda Drew, Darryl Dean with 2 and Elisha James all had triples with Sean Warren and Trish Haertel chipping in with doubles. Defensively Amanda Drew had another strong game at 2nd while Elisha James made an unassisted double play and Chad Hobbs made a good catch. In the final against Marlin Travel Campbell's started slow and trailed 4-1 after 2 1/2 innings. However the bats came alive in the home half of the 3rd Haertel, 2 by Tyler Lucas and meron Vernest. Aaron Gimblett also led Campbell's defense with some fine plays at short while the mound trio of Darryl Dean, Trish Haertel and Deryk Campbell held Marlins to only 2 extra base hits, A very determined and persevering Marlin Travel team was led offensively by Jamie Budge's 4 for 4 game which included a homerun. The other extra base hit was a double by Carla McLaughlin. Singles were hit by Alex McLaughlin, Jesse McKendry, Steve Paradis, David Crouter,"Jenn Bell and Squirt call-up Stefanie Kingswell. Marlin's defense was headed up by the play of Je¥¥es. McKendry, Alex McLaughlin and Jenn Bell. Congratulations to all players for providing the.fans with an exciting final game and a special tip of the ball cap to Campbell's coaches Donna Drew and Tom James and their players for an excellent season. You should be proud of your accomplishments. - Reminders - Reminders - 1. Awards Day is this Sunday, August 27. Hot dogs and pop will be available starting at 12:30 with the presentations commencing at 1:30. All players and from there Campbell went on to win 23-12. Sean Warren led the way with a home run and a triple while Darryl Dean had a homerun as one of his 3 hits. Aaron Gimblett also clouted a homerun to give him 2 forthe day. Chad Hobbs saved his best for last collecting a triple and a double and Ryan Whittick had a triple as one of his 3 hits in the game. Other key hits were 3 singles by Trish and hes are 'asked to please attend. 2. Equipment bags-are due back on Awards Day. Please make sure your equipment bag has all the equipment you received back in early May. 3. Coaches are reminded to complete the post season player assessments and return them on Awards Day. Grant Ranieri kicked in a couple of goals for Nuts About Chocolate. } Citizen vs Burketon Burketon just edged out the Citizen by a score of 7-6 last week. The Citizen scorers were Greg Jeffrey (2),' Sandy Farquharson (1), and Jlatthew Kaminga (3). The scorers for Burketon were Adam Phillipe (1), Phillip Cudahay (2), and Zack Pither (4). Brian's Towing vs M&M Meats M&M Meats came away with a victory of 4-3 over Brian's Towing. Scoring for M&M weré Teddy Howarth (1), Matt Jones (1), and Justin Shinn (2). Stormy Wooton scored two goals and Lisa Kauanagh scored the other goal for Brian's Towing. Willowtree vs Scooter's Joseph Kozlinsky scored a goal for Scooter's but that was not enough for the strong Willowtree team. Goals were scored by Crosby Hartry (2), Meghan Smith (3), Julie Domik (2), Richard Troy (1), Erik Hertzberg (1), and Kevin Glester- (1). The final score was 10-1. Legal Eagles vs Nature's Bounty di ted ng r in Scott Honey's shutout last week for Legal Eagles. Ryan Hamelinck 'scored the only goal of the game. The score was 1-0. On August 12 and 13, a team of 8 girls attended the Durham Cup Tournament. Despite playing shorthanded, the girls worked extremely hard and came up with some pretty impressive scores. Scores were 1-0, 4-0, and 4-8, all if*favour of the ' opposing * team.
