And he expects to start negotiations with the Township council before the end of the year: Mr. Christie said the Board wants a new lease of at least ten years duration. And if the Township ever wants the lease terminated, it must be for "compelling" reasons for the entire community. And before the lease is ever terminated, the Township must carry out extensive surveys to determine if this is what the community wants. Commenting on the Fair this year, Mr. Christie said the crowds will not reach last year's all time record attendance, thanks mostly to a severe rainstorm that swept across Scugog Sunday morning. The always popular harnéss racing card went ahead when the weather cleared in the afternoon, but the crowds stayed away. Attendance was much better on Saturday and Labour Day Monday, he said.
