Daniels GENDER FEMINISM RECONSTRUCTS SOCIETY While browsing the U.N. Internet site, I found and downloaded a draft document prepared by the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women for consideration at the current U.N. Womens' conference being held in Beijing. "The following statement was included in the document: "In many countries, the difference between women's and men's achievements and activities are still not recognized as the consequence of socially constructed gender roles ra than immutable differences." The statement seems reasonable until you discover how some delegates define the phrase "socially constructed gender roles." Conservative writer Dale O'Leary has researched feminist ideology extensively, and Dr. James Dobson shares some of her insights in his letter which I mentidned in last week's column O'Leary says that some radical feminists espouse the view that sexual identification doesn't have biological | so much to do with biological differences as it does with prescribed roles imposed on children as they grow up in this world. O'Leary quotes one feminist: "Although many people think that men and women are the natural expression of a genetic blueprint, gender is a product of human thought and culture, a social.construction that creates the 'true nature' of all individuals." O'Leary goes on to point out that the ideal behind this type of thinking proposes a view that says children should be protected from religious and social conditioning, thus enabling them to move in and out of gender roles and preferences as they progress through life What does this mean? Taken to its extreme, this view leads ultimately to the'deconstruction of gender traditionally understand it, replacing it with a new way of seeing one another These radical feminists suggest that the humgn family not be seen simply in terms of male and female, but rather in five new categories: male, female, homosexual, lesbian, or as we transgendered. A transgendered person refuses to be scen as heterosexual or homosexual, but is able to move in and out of relationships with both sexes. By accepting these five terms as equally legitimate ways of understanding gender, people are freed from traditional biases to try any or all these ways of life. This new way of viewing humanity is simply out of step with biblical teaching. "God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them" (Genesis 1:27 NIV). It flies in the face of the teaching of Jesus Christ: "Haven't you read...that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female...For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will*become one flesh" (Matthew 19:4-5 NIV) We ought to carefully watch any legislation coming from our government which may be the result of decisions taken 'in Beijing. Next week I will discuss what I believe are some of the serious ramifications of gender deconstruction. Everyone Welcome. The Vocal and Instrumental Musical Duo of CAL and CARL FRIEDRICH SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th at 6:30 PM they will present an evening of contemporary Christian Music and ministry with a meaningful and challenging message.
