Alex Shepherd Sr. Alex Shepherd Sr., a successful local businessman died on Sunday, September 3, 1995 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Port Perry, at age 74 He was born in March 21, 1921, to immigrant Scottish parents, marred Ruth (nee Baker) on September 5, 1942. She predeceased him on October 18, 19 Alex served as a petty officer and wireless operator with the Royal Canadian Navy in WW 11 on destroyer/convoy duty in the North Atlantic After the war he had a brief stint working with the Unemployment Commission and finally as an income tax auditor with Revenue Canada specializing in farms Toronto His farming expertise brought him into contact with the farm and community especially in the Port Perry and In 1965 he departed from the government to represent those he had originally a bookkeeping and accounting practice both in Toronto and Port Perry. It was the first time a full-time accounting practice was established in Port Perry and Scugog area Finally in 1972, he and his wife moved to their adopted home of Port Perry where they resided on Rosa Street.
