- 4 -- Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, September 12, 1995 Jen competes in World Highl by Heather McCrae For several years now, a dream of Jen Blackburn's has been to compete at the World's Highland Dancing competitions in Scotland. That dream became a reality for the seventeen year old last month. Not only did she compete at the highly recognized competition but, dancing against 53 other dancers, including one man, she placed fourth in the World's Competition for 16 and 17 year olds. From August 10 and the next two weeks Jen danced her way across Scotland in many highland dancing competitions. Bringing home several medals and prizes indicative of her success, the one she cherishes most is the silver cup she claimed for placing fourth in the World Championships in Dunoon at the Cowal Highland Gathering. Jen's dance instructor, ' ¥ Lorraine Symington, and 16 other students also flew over to attend and compete as well. Although Jen takes weekly lessons, she also gives lessons, too. As of last April she qualified to instruct and now teaches highland dancing to one boy and 12 girls, ranging from' three to eleven years of age. One of these students, Megan Foote, 11, accompanied Jen and her mother, Marion, on the exciting dance tour of Scotland. Megan, who's now into her third year of highland dancing, has been taking lessons from Jen for the last 2 months. This young lady from Yelverton also competed overseas, winning several medals, a trophy and "gained a lot of experience" she said. Since taking lessons from Jen, Megan told the Citizen she's won 3 trophies out of 5 competitions and one of those was in Scotland. = "She's an excellent teacher. application to: Ontario LIL 1A7 (905) 985-7346 Township of Scugog PUBLIC NOTICE REGARDING THE PROPOSED STOPPING-UP, CLOSING AND CONVEYING OF a ROAD BETWEEN LOT 1, PLAN 729 and LOT 1, PLAN 660, PARK ROAD (Unopened) SCUGOG ISLAND NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, pursuant to Section 297 of the Municipal Act, R,S.O., 1990, Chapter M.45, that the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Scugog proposes to pass - by-laws to stop-up, close and convey a road between Lot! 1, Plan 729 (nunicipally known as 298 Carnegie Beach Road) and Lot 1, Plan 660 (municipally known as 286 Carnegie Beach Road), Park Road (Unopened) on 8cugog Island, Ward 3, Township of Scugog.
