=" 34 -- Scugog Citizen - Tuesday, September 19, 1995 Sharks put a bite on Senators in SHL action This weekend the Scugog Hockey League was opened by the Van and Truck World Sharks and the Ball-Callery Senators. Both teams fought hard and then the first goal was scored by Phil Cochrane and assisted by Carl Durward of the Sharks. Mark Decosta of the Senators, assisted by Ken Jeffrey and Roger Moase shot for the second goal evening the scoreboard. Dave Dickson, unassisted, scored another for the Sharks to bring up the lead. Jay Adam scored another goal assisted by Dave Dickson for another goal towards the Sharks, Then in the last seconds of the first period Rick Olaisen was assisted by Dave Dickson and Jay Adam for a first period score of 4-1. Fred Moffatt opened the second period with a goal for the Senators, assisted by Rob Evans and "Capt." Brian Callery. Seconds after that goal "Captain" scored with the help of Fred Moffatt. Phil Cochrane, backed by Carl Durward, scored yet another for the Sharks. Fred Moffatt, assisted by Captain Callery and Fred Randell attempted to try and even the scare but they coyld not catch up to the Sharks. In the last seconds of the game Dave Dickson recefyed Lee Steeves pass and shotfor the final goal making the game 6-4 for the Sharks giving them another win to put under their belts. Game two was played by the Pineridge Wolves ard the Taylor Aces. Sean Fewer scored the first goal for the Aces, assisted by Bob McEachern for a quick lead. Larry Pilkey, assisted by Darcy Milligan and Todd Wilbur of the Wolves, fired the puck in to even the score in the first period. Then Larry Pilkey and Darcy + Milligan pulled the same shot as before and Larry scored another. In the third period'Ken Davison, assisted by Larry Jackson and Todd Wilbur, shot 'another goal for the Wolves. Wayne Taylor followed by Bill Owen tried to get even but could not. The game ended at a 4-2 win for the Wolves, and left them howling in' victory. The third game was played by the J&D Hawks and the Compton Comets. The first goal went to the Hawks thanks to John Mackey who was assisted by Keijo Kinnunen and Tim Ashbridge. Then Jason Warner, assisted by David Roth, scored the first for the Comets and ended the first period. Jason Warner, with Chris Brain and Bob Beacock, scored in ithe opening of the second period, followed by Ron Compton, backed by Bill Foote of the Comets. Mike McQuaid, assisted by Doug Brown and David Roth; scored another for the Comets, followed by Jason Warner, also of the Comets, assisted by Bill Weisflock and Steve Connors, scored yet another goal for the Comets leaving the' second period at 5-2. Steve Groves scored another for the Hawks with Gary Lance and Brian Burns for the last of their goals today. Doug Bronson ended the game with another goal with assists going to Steve Connors and Jason Warner, ending the game at 6-3 for the Comets. Game Four was an interestingly stored game for the 'Pizza Delight Roosters who opened 'the game against Fitzgerald's Clippers: John Harman, Durham), scored the first, second and third goals for the Roosters, one 'in the first period and the last two in the third, each one assisted by Carl Durham. i After an inactive period of almost three weeks, the Port Junior Merchants participated in the year end tournament for the Oshawa and District Mens League. Even though many of the regular players were unable to take part because they had retyrned to university or were involved with work, those who did play represented the team well. Special thanks to Ian Shrigley! (Port Midgets) who helped fill the ranks and played extremely well, especially at third. + The first game placed Port Juniors against Port Antrim, and this was a close match. Antrim had scored one run in the fourth on,a Larry Pilkey home run, and thé Merchants were able to tie it in the sixth when McBride, on with a single, scored on an RBI single by Empringham. The game went into overtime and Antrim 'was able to score two runs in the assisted by Carl. Unfortunately the Roosters lost thanks to Doug Suppelsa, with Rick Campbell "and Carl Fitzgerald. Also Pe er Lane scored, assisted by Rick Campbell and Eddie Olsen. Doug Suppelsa scored again with Carl and Derek Fitzgerald holding the assists. The final goal went to Rick Campbell with Tom Barnes to end the game at 4-3 for the Clippers. The last game of the day was played by the Harrison flames and the Monsma Chargers. Brian Pomerqy scored the first goal with Jack Monsma and Steve Fox assisting. Jack Monsma scored another for the Chargers, assisted by Michael Geer. Then Glen Hudson started the Flames scoreboard with Bill Bridge and Bruce Smith sasisng Glen's shot. Jim Beatty scored another for the Flames assisted by Bill Bridge and Glen Hudson. Bruce Smith scored the third goal for the Flames with Bob top of the eighth to eventually win the game 3-1. Hitters for the game were Card - walk, single; Empringham - 2 singles, RBI; Lee. Then in the final seconds o the second period Brian Pomeroy fired another goal in for the Chargers, assisted by Michael Geer and Lee Wilbur. bill Bridge opened the third period for the Flames with an unassisted goal the lead in the game. The Flames held the lead for the entire period until Lee Wilbur flipped in an amazing shot in the last tenth of a second in the third period (0.00.1), assisted by Todd Healey, to tie the game 4-4, ending this Sunday's Hockey games. In the second game, Port faced an old rwal, "the Oshawa Juveniles who represented Ontario in the Canadian Games held in B.C. this past August. Oshawa started qujckly with two runs in the first, and a two run home run in the second. The Port Merchants continued to leave base runners stranded, but . eventually in the fifth werétable ~ to score three runs to narrow the score to 5-3. Even though Port | 'Redman, Bob Vander Slagt, and team left eight base runners stranded, the final score was 6-4 for Oshawa.
