Cruisin' If you like the "classics" and remember when cars were built to last, then Cruisin' Classics is 'the Car Club for you. Established in September 1990, this organization was formed to "encourage and promote preservation and restoration of pre '79 cars in Canada." Membership has grown to over 50 families. During the Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, October 24, 1995 -- 7 - Classics -- the oldies but goodies "cruising" season, we take part in many car shows throughout Canada and the United States. Wednesday evenings from May to September classic cars from all over cruised to Country Style Donuts in Manchester where we enjoyed good voffes and great company. An average of 70-80 vehicles participated in weekly draws and prizes sponsored by Cruisin' Classics Car Club. Port Perry Festival Days' mini- cruise around Scugog Township was organized by members of our ¢lub. To further promote this year's 50's there we parked our cars on Queen Street during the festival for all to enjoy. Our third Annual Car Show was held at Scugog Shores Winter survival kit in the car may save your life Most motorists, primarily city 'motorists believe they will never be stranded in a snowstorm. Yet, every year, there are reports of motorists freezing to death in their vehicles within the city limits, says Car Care Canada of the Automotive Industries Association of Canada. For example, it could be late at night and you could be stranded only a mile or two from a gas station or house. But trying to walk a mile or two in a snow storm is dangerous. So, why not take that added precaution and put together a basi¢ winter motoring survival kit, including: 1. scraper and' brush; 2. shovel; 3. booster cables; 4. sand, salt or kitty litter (may help to free your vehicle if it's stuck); 5. traction pads or pieces of old carpeting; 6. first aid kit; 7. flashlight; 8. flares; 9. extra fuses, radiator hoses and fan belts; 10. blankets or sleeping bags (for warmth); 11. extra winter clothing (again, for warmth); 12. tow line or chain; 13. a supply of non- perishable foods such as chocolate bars, instant soup, tea or coffee (should you get stranded for a long period of time); 14. a tin can and matches or a lighter and candles to melt snow (never use unmelted snow as a substitute for drinking water; plus, a single candle can warm an empty full-sized sealed car by 4.5 degrees C (10 degrees F); 15. an emergency supply of prescription drugs if necessary. To help survive life- threatening situations, your car should be kept in top operating condition. How long has it been since you've had a tune-up? Is your battery 100% efficient? Tire thread condition is crucial when driving on ice and snow. Also, check inflation. Keep plenty of 4 windshield washer/anti-freeze solvent in the reservoir and keep your gas tank as full as possible to minimize condensation. Freezing of moisture in the fuel system can cut off fuel flow. Be sure all lights are working, and occasionally clean off road dirt and salt. Whether 'you're a "do-it- yourselfer" or a patron of the professional repairman, there's a lot to be said for getting the car care chores out of the way before the severe weather arrives. B.EE. Over 130 vehicles entered this year's event. Due to generous local and regional sponsors, we awarded more than 100 prizes and trophies. The museum maintains that our one-day car show is the biggest fund-raising event for their organization! The final scheduled event was our annual "Fall, Colours' Cruise". Members toured the Bay of Quinte before enjoying a social evening at Holiday Inn, Kingston. The next day we cruised leisurely along Highway | #2 and completed the weekend" at Scooters. In support of the Santa Claus Parade, members decorate and enter a float each year. C.C.C.C. also sponsors a needy family at Christmas through Operation Scugog. Cruisin' Classics Car Club gets together six times over the winter to "talk cars", plan events and generally enjoy each other's company. We encourage all classic car enthysiasts to meet club members at our next gathering - 1:00 p.m. on Sunday October 29, 1995 at Scugog Island Community Centre.
