nm mm 2 mm tne fe wp" 33 Scugog Citizen a -- A | 'Bantams shell Uxbridge 7-0. Saturday night Bantam Hockey at the arena saw Port Perry IGA take on the Uxbridge Lions. Our boys came ready to play and it showed. It was a fast, paced game from start to finish. There was no scoring in the first period but it was end to end Bruins prevail. Brooklin's Bruins and the Homelife Swampers met head to head this past Sunday to see if the Swampers were going to overtake the Bruins for first place, or il Brooklin was going to hang on to that distinction. In the end the Bruins prevailed with a convincing 5-1 decision. The Swampers came out in the first few minutes holding an advantage in play but unable to capitalize on their opportunities. The Bruins took a 2 goal lead in the first half with Don Jansma scoring the opening marker from Shawn Mitchell and Roger Rouselle which® was followed by Wayne Tate from Mitchell and Ken Lynde. In the second period Brooklin expanded on their lead making it 4-0 with 2 from the broom of Lye Collard with Tate and Rob Mason drawing dssists The Swampers got on the board with a goal by Mike Butt from Mike Healy and Mike Geer before Mitchell from Tate rounded out the game's scoring. The second game was even closer as the Blackstock Brewers hung hockey with great passing and some blistering shots from Chad Lance and Kam Cooper. The boys kept their cool and concentrated on the game despite Uxbridge's efforts to distract them. The *second produced two period goals. on to defeat the Stouffville Scorpions by a 2-1 tally. All the scoring was done in the opening frame with Blackstock drawing first blood on a marker by Neil Woodrow 'from Dave Dalton and Peter Wagg. The Scorpions answered that one soon after with Rob Stanton and Leo . Pettipas setting up Dan VanLoon. Blackstock got the eventual winner with just over a minute left in the period from the broom of Al Bouwmeester assisted by Ron Short and Ron Wagg. Trader Sam's and The Framer's Gallery needed overtime to resolve their score with the win eventually going to Trader's with a 1-0 victory. The Framer's were the only ones afforded a powerplay advantage but failed to gain anything from it. In the end both goaltenders, Glenn Archibald for the Framer's and Jim Nanson for Trader's, were given credit ! for shutouts. With 1:36 left in the overtime period Charlie Dennis put one in from just over the centre line with Jim Gregg getting , credit for the assist. Outskating the Uxbridge defense, Chad Lance took a great pass up from Nick Ostafichuk resulting in the first goal of the game. Goal number two came at 9:18 from Kam Cooper with assists from Jon Sanders and Mark Delaney. Great effort guys, while killing a penalty. We held Uxbridge scoreless in the second period even though we played shorthanded most of the period. Chris Thompson was great in net coming up with the puck everytime and a terrific glove save that had the audience cheering. Our defence team of Nick Ostafichuk, Reid McTaggert and Murphy Irvine was strong and Uxbridge couldn't get through them." Steve Martyns digging in the corners helped get the puck out of our zone as well. Wicked shots from the blue ' line from Reid McTaggert and Jeremy Pare had the Lions goalie on his toes during the game. We were shorthanded in the last two minutes of the second period and the guys got the puck and raced in but the Uxbridge goalie robbed Jon and Ken Ellis. The third period was even better. Uxbridge held us off for five minutes, then we exploded for five goals in the last ten minutes. Chad Lance came off the bench and grabbed a pass from Ken and Jon and at 10:50. |. We wdre still cheering when Joel VanCamp popped it in with help from Kam and Nick at 10:40. Shorthanded again, out came our penalty killers, Ken, Nick, Jon and Murphy. Jon took a nice pass from Nick, shot it in and we went up 5-0. Kam | scored in the last two minutes assisted from 'Ken, we had another shorthanded goal. Our last goal came with eight seconds left in the game. Lawrence Cook took a pass from Chad and Joel and we finished with a 7-0 score with Chris Thompson getting a shutout. What a show it was. We missed Peter McKitterick on "our forward line but he will be back next week. Nice to see all our parents and friends out to support the boys. They put in a great effort thanks to coaches Dave Thompson, B. VanCamp Gary Lance. Wow, what a game! Port Perry Printing and Remax Realty of the Port Perry Novice House played what had to be their most entertaining hockey game of the year. The game featured end t6 ~ end action, with great defensive efforts and goaltending on both sides. Josh Page, Ceri Boomsma, and Graham Hofstetter all contributed with excellent defensive efforts, while James Hobbs and Andrew Adams were valiantly trying to crack the "goose egg" for Remax Realty. And finally, with, 2: :47 left 8 Jackson scored the lone goal of the game, with assists going to Brook MacKenzie and Jake Pilkey, to give/Port Perry Printing a well-earned 1-0 victory. Josh Durward of the Printers and Trevor Algar . for Remax. were both outstanding between the pipes. Josh and his Young people in Scugog will have a chance to win an NFL pennant like the ones displayed by Alex McLaughlin when the Cartwright Youth Drop In Centre opens on November 20. Alex Herold of Haugens played a good defensive geine, Scott Stone who was a last minute replacement goalie, played a good game for Haugens.
