Legally blind for three years now, she receives 'talking books' from the CNIB and help from the friendly people at Community Care. "Without the CNIB, Community Care and my friends, I don't know; where I'd be" she told the Citizen. Something else she looks forward to every week are her Friday afternoon visits from Joan Bagg, a Seniors meeting by N/R. Joan says jt was her friend Dorothy Imperial who got her involved with Community Care. Mrs. Imperial, co-ordinator of the agency, needed more volunteers for visiting and approached Joan about it. "I really enjoy my visits with Elsie", she said. Joan also volunteers half a day weekly at the agency's offices located at 175 North Street. When you volunteer with Community Care you reap the rewards. Just sitting with Joan and Elsie the other afternoon, it's evident the two have developed a solid friendship, an affinity that probably wouldn't have happened if Joan hadn't volunteered with the agency. October was Community Support and Community Care Awareness month. A dedicated staff and some 135 volunteers within Scugog Community Care provide services such as transportation, home help, income tax preparation, foot care, meals on wheels and visitations. These services assist the elderly, persons with disabilities and others with special needs so they can remain comfortably in their homes and community. Joan feels theres a need for more people to do visiting. If anyone has a few hours to spare each week or month, Scugog Community Care would like to hear from you. Just call 985-8461. "I've heard of elderly people not wanting help but I can't imagine why" Elsie told the Citizen. "I couldn't be in my own home without the help of Community Care" she said. 90th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION The family of MARJORIE/ HUNTER invites you to celebrate with her on the occasion of her 90th BIRTHDAY atan Open House Tea from 2to 4 PM on Thursday, November 23rd, 1995, 385 Rosa Street.
