Scugog council has given approval in principle toa re-zoning for the Lishman development proposal on 130 acres of land on Highway 7A, just west of Nestleton. But in voting unanimously for the approval in principle at Monday's planning meeting, Scugog councillors attached several conditions that must be met before they agree to the final re- zqning. *'the project must meet all requirements for sewer and water set down by the provincial Environment Ministry. * it must mget all requirements and get from approval the provincial Ministry of Food and Rural Affairs. * it must meet site plan "requirements set down by Scugog council. * Durham Region must first pass an Official Plan amendment before local council can approve the re- zoning. " * the original plans by Lishman for_an ultra-light aerodrome must be deleted, and ultra light landings and také-offs can only be done by the owners for private use, not on a commercial scale. Paula Lishman Ltd. and Bil] Lishman and Associates are attempting to develop the property to sinclude, a 3700 square metre fur garment manufacturing facility, a film studio, interpretive centre, and a facility to assemble ultra light aircraft. School teacher Lucy Black. read a long statement to council that outlines concerns for the size (3720 sq. metres) of the fur plant, the impact of ultra light flights over residential areas, the loss of land now zoned as Federal grant gets local youth project off ground A federal grant of $80,700 will help 30 young people make the jump from school to the workplace. | The grant will fund the Youth Internship program operated by Port Perry High School. "This project will help young people make the transition from school to work and give them the tools they need to build successful careers. The project will provide 30 young participants with training and work experience. Their success will be reflected in a stronger community and local economy," said Durham MP Alex Shepherd, as he announced the grant last week from the federal human resources department. Dave Robinson, a teacher at Port Perry High School who was instrumental in putting the program together, said it will start in late January and be open to young people between the | ages of 16 and 22. Those interested can apply through' the guidance department at the high school, he said. This Internship project will provide a comprehensive school to work transition through strong community support. The participants will get training in computer skills, life management, entrepreneurial and employability skills over the first 20 weeks of the program. Each intern will then be matched with a community work partner for a ten week period that may lead to employment when | completed. The 20 week training | period will be taught by, four | teachers from Port Perry | High School, said Mr. Robinson, and the fully completed internship is | worth four high school credits.
