At the recent Awards presentation Kevin Durward was recognized for hjs fine eqlestrian accomplishments in the dressage ring. Dressage is a graceful partnership between rider and horse. Instructions or aids are invisibly passed from rider to horse through physical contact and pressure causing both to move adroitly as one unit. Kevin's partner in the dressage ring is Flower's ower, a 'registered quarterhorse he's been riding since the Spring of i Open Shoots | Every Sunday | j & Wednesday Prize Money depends on turnout. With a stable name of "Silver", he's Kevin's fourth horse since he started taking dressage lessons seven years ago at Cedar Valley Stables on Scugog Island. Michele Van Heiningen, owner of the stables and also a Medium Dressage Coach, gives Kevin weekly lessons. X Cohich and rider seem to think a lot of each other. "I owe all my winnings and knowledge to Michele. After I bought "Silver" in April of '93, I was winning within half a year," the fifteen year old rider from Sonya said. Michele says she's proud of how well her student has done. "His parents have always been behind him, giving him full support, and trailering the horse to her stable' every week and to numerous shows throughout the shaw season" she said. Earlier this year the 'B' team of the Uxbridge- Scugog Pony Club won the Regional and Provincial Games Championships. With Kevin claiming top 'awards in the dressage ring this, year he feels it's great for the club. "Now we are known oe more than the PPGs," smiled. Over the weekend Kevin learned more good news. He has been dwarded the Basic II Champion and Basic I Réserve Champion on the Trillium circuit. Trillium is a stiffer competition, a level above Pony Club but a level below "recognized" or Olympic level. Kevin still has many yélirs of Pony Club ahead of him. He and his younger brother, Michael, say there's a lot to learn and they always have good clinics and lectures every month. The (Central Ontario Region is the largest region in Canada. With over 30 pony clubs in this Region there are over 800 riders. Kevin's goal is to teach riding and compete in the Olympics in jumping and, of course, dressage. "Kevin's got a lot of natural ability," Michele told the Citizen. "If he keeps it up} he's going to 80 along way." Truck thieves busy Vehicle thieves continue to work in Scugog Township, according to Durham Police. There were two separate incidents last week in Greenbank as thieves attempted to make off with late-model Dodge Ram pick-ups. In both cases they were not successful, but managed to do some damage to the vehicles in the process. A 1992 Dodge Voyageur van was reported missing from a driveway on Circle Drive in Port Perry, and on Sunday evening, thieves attempted to get away in a 1994 Voyageur from the parking lot at the Pentecostal Church on Reach Street. A vehicle reported stolen from York Region turned up in Seagrave late Sunday afternoon. Police say the vehicle was abandoned on River Street and four males were seen leaving the scene. And a Chev truck reported stolen from thé Trewin Farm Equipment dealership in Blackstock was found abandoned in a wooded area south of that community. When found, the truck was minus four tires, the battery and alternator, Police'said. Duplicate Bridge November 22nd afternoon - 5 table Howell avg. 54 1st.
