"Our concern is for the children--to provide them top quality day care that is affordable," she said. It costs just over $500 per month to send a pre- schooler to the Playcare Centre at Cawker School which is open five days each week from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Mrs. Jakobsen said the decision to shut the Centre last Friday in protest was fully supported by the families who use the service. Across Durham, Playcare Centres care for over 750 children and employee 110 people. Many of the employees were at Queens Park on Friday as part of the protest organized by the Coalition for Better Child Care. Other staff spent their time at Playcare head office where children were being cared for. Staff who attended the rally at Queens Park were not paid for Friday, said Mrs. Jakobsen. Mayor Hall eyes Police Brd. seat Scugog Mayor Howard Hall is giving some thought to seeking election to the Durham Police Services Board. While stating he will make up his mind one way or another in the next few days, the Mayor said he is giving the idea some serious thought. The position on the Police Services Board became vacant with the November 20 death of Durham Region chairman Gary Herrema. Durham council has set December 6 as the date to vote in a new chairman and to name one of its members to the Police Services Board.
