For the past 25 years she's been serving customers at Emiel's Place in downtown Port Perry. See story. by Heather McCrae. Standing on your feet all day, serving food to customers and always having a warm smile isn't a job for everyone. But for Reta Brown, waitressing has been a good part of her life for 28 years. For twenty-five of these "years Reta has enjoyed serving food and drinks at Emiel's Place. "I love it" she says about her job. "Oh sure, there are some days that don't run as smoothly as others, but on the whole I'd say I love my job" she told the Citizen. 'When the Kroonenbergs bought the Queensdale Restaurant 25 years ago Reta was a staff member "who came with the transition". "I was there when Emiel and Kathy started and I'm still with them today" she smiled. "The Kroonenbergs are good-hearted people" she Port Seniors Club It was pleasing to see such a large group of Seniors attending our monthly pot-luck dinner. The Bentleys were " greeters for this meeting and the registration was handled by the Redmans. Following the singing of our National Anthem and the Grace before meals, accompanied by Edna Beckett at the piano, a delicious dinner was served up by the volunteer kitchen staff. Thanks to the staff and the seniors who supplied the great variety of food. The Executive reported on the items of business of interest to the available and noted that the Florida trip is nearing capacity so those wishing to go should make their reservations promptly by calling 985- 7696. The entertainment for this meeting was supplied by four ladies calling themselves The Music Box Co. These gals,namely, Sally Kane, Debra Kelland, Christine Crush and Arlene Boothroyd are active members of the Sweet Adelines and harmonized with some songs that was enjoyed by all. There will be no membership. The Latcham Centre will be closed for maintenance work starting December 4th thru 6th so the Seniors' activities for that period has been cancelled. Up until a few years ago Reta worked 5 days a' week waitressing in the dining room and coffee shop but now works mostly in the latter. Being blessed with five children, Reta's family has ded and she now has waited on over the years she says she hasn't had, many rude customers. 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. While a son lives on Vancouver Island, the rest of the family live locally. Her hobby being singing, Reta enjoys being a member of the Port Perry' United Church choir and the Scugog Choral Society. Having good health, a supportive family and a job she enjoys, Reta feels her life is complete. Local Hospital Auxiliary prepares for luncheon The Auxiliary Prayer opened our November meeting. A warm welcome was extended to all. The attendance was 35 members plus 3 new who received a special welcome. Secretary Pauline Carter read September minutes. They were accepted with one correction. Bonnie Gerrow gave an excellent Treasurer's Report. + Noreen Malcolm and Dolly Lee have been busy makipg arrangements for our Gala Christmas Luncheon.
