=» 98 Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, Decemb 5, 1995 = Legionaires get last second win by 2-1 .On Tuesday November 28, Port Perry's Legion PeeWee team played host to Lindsay. Showing the effects of playing sex tough games on the weekend the boys had a slow first period, and fell behind 1-0 by the end of the second period. Carl Evans was sharp in goal to keep the score close. During the intermission before the third period, the coaching staff of Gary Geer, Ed Teno and Ralph McCullough must have fired the Blue and Gold team up as they came to play in the third. Dean Van Camp tied the game finishing off a breakaway pass from Matt MacMaster. Braden Tarbotton started the play in his own end and Carl Evans also received an assist. : The game remained tied * with numerous chances at both ends until late in the final frame. Matt MacMaster dug out the puck in our end, fed it to Dean who carried it in and fought off a check to centre the' puck to Jason Whitworth who banged it home with six seconds left in the game. Needless to say, everyone was happy + © that never qujts when they to have Jason back in the line-up after his surgery; scoring the winning goal was just icing on the cake. Back in action on Friday December, 1 against Lindsay again, the two teams played another scoreless first period thanks 1 to some outstanding goaltending by Chris Monsma. These two evenly matched teams battled on with the intensity level high. Tim Jones played it tough taking a couple of hard checks to hold the line in the offensive zone and just managed to get a piece of their captain to thwart a breakaway. David Justynski and Grant Hooker also played well in our zone forcing Lindsay to shoot from bad angles, and Shawn Jeffrey as usual made sure they kept their heads up dishing out bodychecks, especially the open ice hit that sent their forward into orbit, making him feel likesa Toronto Maple Leaf on his batt. _ Lindsay opened the * scoring in the secorid but Port stormed right back. Dane Gray positioned in front of their net, tapped in a perfect feed form Mark Blakely and Jason Whitworth. Eighteen seconds later Lindsay went up 2-1, but this team are down once again showed off their fire power. Dean Van Camp walked around their defence with a feed from David Justynski to tie it up. At centre Scott Brownson, Jason Whitworth and Braden Tarbotton gave us a puck control advantage winning 'most of the face-offs, highlighted by Braden winning six'in a row in their end during a man advantage. Mat MacMaster put us out in front to stay assisted by Braden and Deari. Braden put the game out of reach with one minute to play with help from Dean and Matt. Chris Monsma was cool and steady throughout the third turning away several good chances. Steven Wygerde continually crashed the net ' forechecking and Chris Skerratt continued to make sharp heads-up passes. Looking forward to some more great hockey games , when these two teams meet again during the balance of the season. The Legionaires are playing so well they will soon be compared to the best team in the NHL, this years Stanley Cup Champ favourites, the Detroit Red Wings.
