It will be the third year for Siberian sled dog racing in Port Perry, though this January's event will be "scaled down" from previous years, said Mr. Goldberg. The Port Perry office of H and R Block is sponsoring the races and putting up the $500 Christmas trees of all shapes and sizes are being sold again this year by 1st Port Perry Scouts at the Port Perry Plaza. Last year, the purse was $10,000. The local Kinsmen Club took a major financial bath last year (to the tune of $13,000) when day two of the races had to be cancelled due to poor track conditions, high winds and blowing snow on Lake Scugog. Then it will come back to the lake and finish again on Queer Street. This track will offer excellent vantage points for spectators. And because of its location, said Mr. Goldberg, volunteers can start to groom it well ahead of the racing weekend. The Kinsmen Club wants to be able to offer the mushers a top quality racing track and the club is now in the process of negotiating with several corporations to secure long term backing for the Port Perry sled dog races. "If the races are successful this year it should be an enticement for companies to get involved in a long term sponsorship commitment," he stated. The Jan. 20 and 21 racing weekend will feature four dog and six dog teams, and something new, three dog teams in which the competition is strictly for points. Mr. Goldberg said the local Kinsmen Club is hoping to make money this year by selling track- side ad space, sale of a booklet and from 'public . and company donations. Racing on both days this winter will start at 12:00 noon from the corner. of Queen and Perry Streets. If the racing has tb be cancelled for any reason, there are plans to hold other events on Queen Street such as sled rides for children and adults, and a pulling competition for the Huskies. 8 x 10 plus 10 Wallet Size with every FAMILY GIFT PACKAGE SAVE $47.50 Book by Dec. 12th for Christmas Delivery.
