Way to play a great game guys. We were now in the championship final at 2:00 against a team fiom Cobourg. They were a very strong team and we tried our best but it was @ rough game. We couldn't score on them and one of their players had 6 goals himself. We came away with a 8-0 loas and several bruises. The boys all received a nice crystal trophy for their great effort in the tournament. It was a good showing for our 1st tournament to win all 3 of our first games and have 2 shutouts for our goalie. It was a lot of fun for the boys and the parents. Thanks go to our coaches Dave jackson, Mark Howsam and Larry Pilkey for their contribution to our team. Pearce Auction had a dynamite red and white Christmas. Just before the jolly guy arrived on December 22, Pearce Auction met Lindsay in Port Perry. Lindsay put the pressure on early and had many chances in our end but Leo Tallion kept it scoreless. Michael Lycett worked hard and lead by example. Lindsay broke the deadlock but Port Perry came back strongly. Keenan Geer scored for the Auctioneers with help from Kyle Mullins and Jeff Tomcheski to end the contest tied. After the Christmas break Pearce Auction were ready to compete in 2 tournaments three days apart. Wednesday, Dec. 27th, we were up early for the drive to Acton to play Tottenham at 9:30am. It was a close contest as Matthew Roth, on a breakaway, let go a blistering wrist-shot that just missed. Unfortunately, Port Perry couldn't break Tottenham's strong defence while Tottenham netted two goals putting us on the B' side. Our _next opponent was Creemore and another close game ensued. Michael Lycett's persistence paid off when he scored a bank shot off the goalie to open the scoring. Matthew Roth banged in a nice goal with assist to Tyson Savage who also helped Ashley Lucas put the puck and goalie in the net for Pearce Auction's third. Creemore came back to take the lead to make it 4-3. With only 1:07 on the clock in the third, Derek Goreski set Michael Lycett up for the tying goal and it was overtime. This was sudden death in 2 minute segments. As each period ended both teams removed one player leavin the original players to endure with no substitutions. It was down to three players on 3 as Leo Taillon was doing his thing in our net. Creemore took a penalty and on the next face-off Keenan Geer, our long-distance specialist, took it in all the way and ripped one home for an exciting finish. The, win put usin the 'B' finals. | Our opponent was Parkdale, the same team we met in the identical situation last year, it was De ja vu all over again. After an interesting rendition of 'O Canada' our gang looked lifted and ready to rock. Tyson Savage sent Cassidy Weber in on a breakaway to lift the puck in to open the scoring. Pearce Auction came right back with a pretty passing play which saw Tyson Savage pass up to Cassidy who fed it in front to Ashley Lucas who made no mistake. Ashley stole the puck again and went down to score unassisted making it 3-1. Parkdale wasn't about to give up as they came back to tie it forcing, overtime. Mark Carnaghan was in the net for Port Perry and turned aside all comers in the overtime. Keenan Geer grabbed the pyck and sent Tyson Savage flying down the ice. Tysqn passed to Ashley Lucas, who had the magic touch to complete the hat trick and win the hardware. Big Michael Lycett worked extremely hard and was a fine choice as our MVP Pearce Auction coaches said they hoped the team would get by Christmas. Patience and encouragement goes a long way. Goreski scored an insurance goal, lifting a shot from the blue line, with assist going to hard- working Danny Halward. Lakefield was our next challenge. It was a close- checking affair as the play went back and forth. Midway through the second period Lakefield finally opened the scoring. It was into the third before we found the mark to tie it. Keenan Geer got it to Taylor Churchill who slid it to Kyle Mullins who was wide open in front of the net and he pocketed it. At that time we took it to them but couldn't beat the goalie in'regulation time. Sudden death agdin; Pearce Auction picked up the pace and didn't let up until Tyson Savage backhanded in the rebounds of Ashley Lucas and Jeff Tomcheski to advance us to the 'A' finals. # In the final .championship game we met Ayr, a team that had won 4 out of the 6 tournaments they had been in. Ayr started fast but Leo 'the Mitt' was hot and held them off. Kyle Mullins came back by taking the puck down the ice and scoring with assists to Jeff Tomcheski and Nelson Langmaid. Ayr scored later in the first to tie it and went ahead early in the second frame. Port Perry tried time and time again to even it up but not until 1:31 left in the third did Ashley break free and score to bring yet again another overtime. After a 6 minute sudden death frame the organizers went on to the dreadful shoot out. Five players from each team were selected. Ayr's first marksman banked one off the post to beat Leo while our ghooter was foiled.
