Bantam HL report December 23rd saw IGA vs, Swamp in the last game prior to Christmas. Both teams were short players this game so the guys got lots of ice time as there were only 3 extras on each bench. Jeremy Pare scofed our 1st goal for IGA on a nice pass from Chad Lance and Joel VanCamp at 13:54 of the 1st period. Another goal at 11:43 by Ken Ellis was assisted by Nick Ostifachuk and Chad (wicked slap shot Nick). Our guys were playing hard and at 10:35, Murphy Irvine let go a shot from the blue line that hit the Bwamp goalie, Dave Bonsier right in the mask. It didn't go in this time but Murphy scored at 6:54 on a nice pass from Jeremy. Great 1st period Murphy. By the way, where was Reid McTaggert, guys. There was a guy with a Swamp sweater on who looked a lot like Reid but we heard that was his "evil twin". - The 2nd period saw lots of action. Chad hit the boards hard early in the 2nd but thankfully he was okay. Chris Thompson was coming up with some great saves for us. The Swamps John Bacon scored on us at 7:05. The first 'game was December 18th at the Scugog Arena against those pesky Cougars of Cobourg. The boys were out for revenge as Cobourg had defeated us the last time we met. Right from the drop of the puck you could tell Port was in no mood to hand out early *% Xmas presents, as they 'powered their way to an early 2-0 lead. Derek Tindall and Glenn McCready set the table first for Ian Parliament to bulge the twine of the Cobourg net. Up next was Derek Tin making that red light flash as he scored assisted by Adam Hobbs and Glenn McCready. Cobourg was given only one Xmas present from the stingy Port defence, as they scored late in the period for a 2-1 Port lead after one. The second continued much the same as the first as Port added two more goals for a convincing 4-1 lead at the end of the second period. Dillan Weber and Casey VanSchagen scored the goals for Port and were assisted by Derek Tindall, Scott Jeffrey and Nick Pelyk. It was a quiet affair in the third period as Port shut down the Cobourg offence and finished the game 4-1 winners. Ryan Fraser played a strong game in net for the win. The busy schedule continued on December 27th and 28th as the Country Style Bantams travelled to Lindsay to take on all challengers at this tournament. Up first for Port was an encounter with a team from Pickering. Perhaps Pickering should have stayed home as Port cruised to a 10-1 win in this one sided contest. Seems like everyone had a hand in this big one! The competition changed drastically the next morning when the Donuts were up against those irritating Golden Hawks from Trenton. The Port Bantams decided * early on they were not going to succumb to the goading tactics that the Hawks usually employ, and played some good old fashioned hockey. Trenton took the lead late in the first but Poff roared back with two quick goals. Casey VanSchagen let go a 'howitzer' from the point for the first goal assisted by Troy Campbell and Dillan Weber. Next up, Adam Hobbs finished off a nice pass from his linemate, Captain Derek Tindal which put our boys in front heading into the second. Both teams scored a goal each in the second period but Port managed to maintain the lead 3-2. Scott Jeffrey scored Port's goal assisted by Casey VanSchagen and Troy Campbell. The third period was a real barn burner as Port finished this solid effort with another goal for a thrilling 4-2 win. Derek Tindall came around from the back of the net after being fed the puck from Adam Hobbs and surprised the Trenton goalie with a shot to the far corner of the goal. Ryan Fraser played a fine game for Port in preserving the win. Later that day Port Perry took on the Bantams from Bracebridge, last year's All Ontario Champions, and- were in no mood to take a back seat to these guys. ! Port put on a clinic as they out hustled and totally frustrated this Bracebridge' team. Port scored tWo in the first and two more in the third for a convincing 4-0 win. In our final our opponents were none other than the tournament hosts Lindsay, who had eliminated Port from their own home tournament on December 16th. Port was up for this game right from the start. After a scoreless first period Port went to work in the second as they took the lead on a goal from Jon Froats assisted from Casey VanSchagen and Dillan Weber.
