This prompted a death threat stating, "Show up in Toronto and step on the ice and you will be shot." Ted laughed when police took 1t seriously (which they should have). He played his usual great game and, when the game was over and all the players had left the ice, he skated around the ice making like his stick was a rifle and he was shooting the fans. The police were not amused. In 1957, Ted and Jim Thompson, Todd Sloan, Dollard St. Laurent and Doug Harvey went about trying to get a union going. The strange thing about this was, there were not the guys who needed a' union. They had it made. They were fighting for the average player, though. The players were treated like dogs, shipped anywhere, anytime. They also had to pay their pwn leases and moving expenses, too. Despite that, they didn't want a union, just an association. The association failed and ring leaders were banished to the Chicago Black Hawks, the worst team in the league. Ted wonders to this day whether the young players appreciate the sacrifice these guys went through. Ted played three years for Chicago, but his heart was in Detroit, so he retired andy went into business; He» tried: come baci retired o again became a br 1279 Simcoe St. North OSHAWA 728-6291 dcast for NBC's Game of the Week. Besides his good goaltending he was lucky as our team hit 4 or 5 goal posts, Port got on the board first at 8:44 when Tyler Lee scored from Ryan Hnatko and Joey Lane. Acton tied the score 20 seconds later. Andrew Fancy played well in the Port net making many good saves before getting hurt after stopping a breakaway. The Pineridge squad's defence "of Wesley Langmaid, Garrett Brown, Luke Pilkey, Justin Shinn, Chris McKittérick rand Tony Boomsma have played well lately, just in time for playoffs. All 3 lines show scoring touch and goaltending "is improving. Playoffs are coming just at the right time! - Tween A report At this past weekends 6th Annual Port Perry Ringette Tournament the Pineridge Tween A's put forth a valiant effort but the Tween A competition from Chatham and Seaforth was outstanding. Our girls have proven to be competitive in their league but still have skills to "develop when up against select A teams in' tournaments. Much was learned from the 'experierice and this will be put to good use during the rest of the season and the next two tournaments planned for the team. Coach Barry Virtue and Asst. Coach Steve Burgess are proud of your effort. And last, but not least many thanks to all the ringette girls and parents who watched our games and cheered on our girls, your support was yery much appreciated. Guardian Tweens The Guardian Tween 'C' started the 1996 campaign with a much needed victory. After a lengthy layoff over the Christmas break our girls were anxious to get back on the ice. On Jan. 7th Scarboretgh came to town for their second meeting with us this season. Previously we had beaten this team and we're looking forward to the rematch. Early into the first period the visitors took the lead. Quickly our girls bounced back when Shannon intercepted a clearing pass, stick handled around the defense and went to the net for the score. A minute later Sarah scored her first goal from Alaina B. At 8:56 Port got a nice" goal when Colleen started the play in our zone, passed to Sheena who then . relayed the ring to Shannon streaking toward the net for the score. Port 3-1. Scarborough managed to get one more before the period ended. The Guardian Tween's came out smoking in the second period but were frustrated by excellent goaltending. The visitors came back and were stymied by Alaina D., who continues to improve-with every game. Late in the period they did score to tie it up but with 2:43 left Sarah scored her second from Alaina B. to seal the victory. Final Port 4-3. We're in the second half of the season now. The Tween 'C' division has been re-seated and now there are 7 teams in it, only the top 4 teams make post. season play so every point is important if we want to make the playoffs.
