Happy Retirement!! by Heather McCrae A retirement party, hosted by R.H. Cornish PS, is being held January 18 at Trillium Valley honouring teacher Pat McDougall. : Having grown up in Windsor, after graduating from teacher's college in London, Pat's career in the classroom has taken her to - Windsor, Sarnia, London, Uxbridge, Port Perry, Europe and the US. In 1985 Pat and her husband took a year's leave from their teaching jobs, travelling througheut Europe and California, taking their grade eight son with them. NeVer neglecting their son's education Pat taught him English while his dad taught him Math "and the geography, hi: , science and french were ongoing subjects he learned amidst our travels" she said. Returning home the next year Pat was hired to teach English to the French Immersion students at R.H. Cornish and has been there since. She was also an Academic Resource teacher for two years. Teaching today is more of a challenge then it was 20 years ago, she says, but it's one she's always erfjoyed. "I've met a lot of wonderful people over the years and have enjoyed my years of teaching". Port Seniors Club looking forward to busy year in '96 The various programs of the Port Perry Seniors™ have re-opened for 1996. Ta January the Euchre Club, the Executive Committee, the Choir, the Exercise and Line Dancing Group and Shuffle Board began the various Winter schedules. The Euchre Club is open to the public and meets on some Wednesdays and Saturdays according to times listed elsewhere in this paper. This month the Executive Committee membership was increased to have the following personnel: Past President - Stan Rickard, President - Clara Warren, First Vice President - Otto Bujtas, Second Vice President - Marion Lee, Secretary - Anne Zaporozon, Treasurer - Vie Sparrow, and mémbers Myrtle Bentley, Jean McDermott, Gordon Prentice, Doris Redman. The choir has about 24 members who meet once a week under the direction of Edna Beckett}and pianist Carol Edgar. The choir has recently sung at the Church Anniversary, the Nursing Home and the Seniors Christmas Dinner. The Exercise and alternate arrangements. Myrtle Bentley arranges the organization of this group. The Shuffle Board players, Yunder the direction of Otto Bujtas, concluded a suctessful year and now are entering the Winter schedule. The Regular Meeting for all members was held on January 10th with Marion Lee and Grant Bright as Greeters. After the normal business was conducted; Darlene Brown, from Scugog Tourism made a brief presentation to outline the Scugog Tourism program which could involve Senior participation. Shuffle Board awards for the fall schedule were presented by Otto Bujtas: first to Aileen Dawson, second to Clara Warren and third to Lloyd Wakeford. Jacklyn Kerr, Tour Advisor, brought everyone up to date on the Seniors. Travel Program, From February though April there aré 12 day trips scheduled to cover a wide variety of interests. From January to December there are 11 escorted overnight tours being organized. THe first of these tours begins on January 30 when a full bus departs for Florida for an 18 day period. For such tours, cars may be parked at the Kerr Yard where the vehicles will be monitored and prepared for the drive off when the 'passengers return home. This regular Meeting: closed with a lunch period after which some members remained to play various games. The Club is operating the "55 Alive Mature Driver | Refresher Program". These classes will begin on Wed. Feb. 21st at 9:30am at the Latcham Centre and continue at the same times for three successive weeks. This course is filled with the 30 participants who have signed up. A second course may be offered in late March. at Teacher's College she had attended,a phys. ed. and health course at McMaster University. With her husband Line Dancing Groups meet on Mondays and Fridays. The illness of T Dougall retired from teaching at the end of December. R.H.
