Kam Cooper had some good shots this period and the guys were playing hard. Cobourg got by us with a goal at 4:03. We were trying to catch up hl Murphy, t Irvine was firing some great * shots in for us. The second period we had good defence and our goalie Chris Thompson was making some great saves for us in net. We held Cobourg off « until 6:28 when they scored Cable boys splice a Compton Novice played our final game of the regular season Friday night in Port Perry against Millbrook. WOW! Equal time was spent in front of both nets as the play was rushed from one end of the rink to the other. Port opened the scoring at 2:17 of the first on a drive to the net. Craig Simmonds slammed a rebound home . with the well-deserved assist going to Craig Kehoe. Port managed to hold them all through the second and most of the third. Millbrook * tucked one home at the 5:58 mark. The score was tied and Port tried valiantly to hold them to that. At the 1:28 mark, Millbrook banged another one home. Port needed the equalizer and fast. Ln Port played it cool--topk a deep breath, regrouped and came out more determined against us. Jeremy Pare let a blast go from the blue line and their goalie ducked but it didn't find the net. Joel VanCamp and Pete McKitterick were doing some good work in front of the net but we just couldn't get it in. Chris - 2-2 tie than ever. Down to Millbrook's end. Our goalie headed for the bench. With 6 attackers and only 19 seconds remaining on the clock, Craig Simmonds continued to light our lamp and gave the team the equalizer. Assisting on that goal were Brett Simmons and Kristy Ashton. The final score a hard-fought 2-2. Good hustle award to the entire team this week made a great catch at 3:20 and the fans were cheering. Cobourg was hot in the third. We were down 2-0 and Cobourg scored 3 more goals on us. Chad Lance put in a good effort this game as did all the guys. They use words like 'highly talented, skillful,' and 'great skaters'. I was beginning to wonder if our boys had a chance, yet we go undefeated. Yes, the Europeans are highly talented, but hockey is a team game. . I think Marcel Comeau said it best. "It's not the best 22 players. It's the best team and Canada was the best team." I think our B team could have still whipped them. Jose Theodore, Canada's goalie, was the star of the series and deserved to be the all-star goaltender. Jarome Iginla, Canada's power forward, made the trade for Joe Niewendyk look great for the Calgary Flames. The kid had a ton of pressure, everybody wanted to see who cay got for Joe, a | prove 50-goal scorer. The kid remind® me of a young Rick Tocchet, the rugged Los Angeles Kings' forward. The Europeans cannot match the Canadians for burning desire to win. If we come out of that him because 9 pulp "Call Now 985-9767 IMPROVE YOUR NEST! This particular version of the Canadian Junior team actually beat the Europeans at their own game. It was the smallest team we ever eritered in that event. It is very difficult to out * finesse the Europeans but our boys'always seem to have that intangible which puts them over the top. They were small alright, small except in heart, and that's where it counts. 4 DR. T KING, Orthodontist CATCH ALL THE ACTION ON... SATELLITE TV! Ken Ellis was doing great work in the corners to dig out the puck. A high scoring 3rd period saw Cobourg dominate. Goals at 8:57, 6:51 and 5:51 left us down 4-3. Tensions mounted and everyone was doing their best to score. Kam Cooper put the puck in Great effort by Port IGA in Cobourg tourney | on a scramble in front of the net at 4:18 to tie the game at 4-4. Assists on Kam's goal went to Joel and Reid. End to end hockey for the remaining minutes of the game had the parents on both sides cheering. Finally with 32 seconds left Cobourg gcored on us.
