! - i Sa Scugog Citizen "=Tnesday, January 23, 1996 -- 21 Port Minor Softball starting to think Spring It seems like winter has already been here for months and even if there is séveral feet of the white stuff out there it's time to think about the upcoming ball season. Last Qgtober the Port Perry and Disfrict Minor Softball Association held its annual general meeting and elected the officers for the new year. Unfortunately the turn out + was_minimal and very disappointing to the outgoing executive who felt they had supplied a number of good programs and were expectinfijto see + a number of parents, coaches, etc. in attendance to supply a mandate for the incoming board. Maybe it was due to these programs that nobody showed up hecause't could have been interpreted that everyone was happy with the season. Whatever the reasons elections were held and! the executive for 1996 will remain the same as last year with Dave Dalton as President, Dave McTaggars in at Vice- resident, - and Ken Reinhardt as Secretary- Treasurer. Alynne Jones will remain as Past. President and there is a! slate of seven directors / serving on the board. Most of the programs from last year will be duplicatefl again this season with the skills development and evaluation for the registrants to be scheduled in April, available diamond timé for practices, etc. There will be a revamped coaches clinic which will' be re-instituted as well as the possibility of a "softball camp" in early July for a one week period. To better serve the House League participants the association is putting "together a committee specifically geargd? to looking at all the progfams at that level to enhance what is already there and to make sure the program gets the maximum we can offer. The Junior Development program for umpires will | course is the annual again: be offeréd with "details to follow as they become available. Of course the association is also looking for returning, and new coaches to assist in getting the children on the diamond and aiding in their development irt skills and team playing. The coaches will also go- through a development and evaluation program as noted above prior to the start of the season. There ig an ad elsewhere in this' newspaper pertaining to the registration of coaches.
