Rural townships from page 9 Solid research has proven there are three main for a community to secede from their political associations and boundaries; they are: 1. Economic Exploitation; 2. Systematic Oppression; 3. Loss of Social Identity. In the last several years, those of us north of Davis Drive oe experienced all three of the above Economic Exploitation - monies due our comunity for recreation and soctal needs have been denied and spent in the urban reasons area. Council has not provided community centre, developed parkland, picnic facilities, playground equipment, decent lighting. Systematic Oppression - Sandford people are labelled 'bad neighbours' and with other profanities because we question Council's actions. A community-appointed volunteer committee is fired by Council and ordered out of Council Chambers or else welll get nothing. We left and still we've got nothing. Loss of Social Identity - We have heard that Sandford seniors don't need their own club - they can go into Uxbridge. When a Heritage Garden was suggesfed in our parkland to honour our founding' families our Mayor sarcastically suggested we might be considering planting their ashes too. This type of denigrating behaviour by our local politicians towards citizens who are volunteering their time for their community is both offensive and totally unacceptable. Council is paid to serve the people in a} fair and equitable manner. Scott Township deserves better representation. The change the Golden Report suggests could improve our tax position and we most certainly couldn't be any worse off with our municipal representation.
