The biggest responsibility Ken has is getting the calf born alive and ensuring it gets a good start in life nutritionally. When the alarm goes off at 4:15am, Ken's day begins. Arriving at the farm 'shortly after, he helps filk a few cows and the moo juice is used to feed about 50 baby calves. After the equipment is cleaned up, Ken heads fome for the usual breakfast he's had for umpteen years - "a good serving of cereal, toast and fruit". Back 'arm again by 8am, he spends the 'Test of the day caring for about 800 cattle. Quite often the daily routine is in-terrupted by a heifer calving and Ken's always there to give assistance; morning, noon - 'and especially through the night. A neighbouring cattle , breeder told the Citizen" "Ken is regarded throughout North America, and probably the world, as one of the top managers of dairy cattle". Working with these big animals, he's had his share of kicks but always walks away with only a few bumps and bruises. Often chewing on a White cattle for over 50 years Owl cigar, he quips, It's the only bad habit I have." Appearing to be in good health, Ken says he's only been to the doctor pnce since moving here in '73 and that was to get & rabies vaccine a few years ago. A father, a grandfather and an avid fan of the Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs, he says, "I don't ever think about being sixty". Although the hours are long, he enjoys his work, Actually life's easier now. "When we used to milk a large herd; I'd be up at 3:30 to start milking at 4am. Now I can sleep in until 4:15," he chuckles. Church of the Ascension ih Port Perry welcomed the Rev.
