. For the first time in over 20 years, a PPHS Senior Boys' Basketball team won the LOSSA gold and Is off to Belleville this week for the OFSSAA ' competitions. Playoff spots set in local broomball loop The regular broomball season came to a close this past Sunday and the top four are gearing up for post season play beginning next Sunday. Going into this week the Blackstock Brewers and Trader Sam's were deadlocked in the standings with 20 points each and were going head to head to see who would come out on top. When the smoke had cleared it was Trader's emerging victorious with a 4-2 total. The first period saw both teams trade off goals with Trader's going first when Shawn Piels recorded an uhassisted marker. This was answered by Blackstock's Ron Wagg with Ron Short and Neil Woodrow drawing assists. Tony Dennis from Ken St. Amant and Les Allen pulled Trader's out in front and this was followed shortly after by St. Amant's goal from Dennis. Blackstock rebounded with their final marker off the stick of Woodrow from Al Bouwmmeester. The final goal went to Mike O'Meara with help from St. Amant and Piels. In game two it was the league leading Brooklin Bruins blanking the Stouffville Scorpions by a 4-0 tally. The Bruins built up a two goal lead before the midway point with goals by Don Jansma and Luke Collard. Picking up the assists were Ron and Nick Attwood, with Jansmé drawing'one on Collard's goal. The Scorpion's kept it close until the dying moments when they gave up the final two. Scoring Brooklin's third goal was Shawn Mitchell from Dennis McWhirter and the last tally going to Ron Attwood from Rob Mason. The Senior Rebels coached by Bill Langley are off to Belleville this Wednesday to compete against 16 other AA schools from across the province for the coveted OFSSAA crown. The Rebs won a berth in this tournament last Thursday night at Durham College when they soundly defeated G.L. Roberts 64- (38 to capture the Lake Ontario Secondary School Athletic A the squad for a great, team effort over Roberts in the LOSSA showdown. A berth in OFSSAA has been a long time coming for the Senior crew at PPHS. Pineridge Midgets out The playoff season for Port's Pineridge Sports Midgets came to an abrupt end a couple of weeks ago in Stouffville. The team dropped the series in two straight to theClippers, who have since fallen to Oshawa in the Lakeshore group finals. (Oshawa subsequently went on to paly Port Colborne in the 'OMHA Midget A quarter - finals). Coach Warren Geer and his assistants Jim Dexter and Steve Connors deserve recognition for the time and effort they spent with the members of the team over the season.
