After a long drive the first team to face off against Port was from St. Laurent. The first few minutes showed what a fast paced match this would turn out to be. ' The 1st period remained scoreless until the midway mark when Jen Elliott found the empty corner on a perfect pass from Kaghleen Rojas. Thirty ds later St. Laurent tied the score but Port took the lead once again as Kathleen intercepted a « pass and beat the goal tender. . St. Laurefit tied' it up again but the scoreboard lit up for Port as Leanne Holt combined with Lisa iLeFort to once again take lead but before the end the 1st period, you guessed it, St. Laurent tied it up! - As the 2nd period opened this time St. Laurent "jumped into a one goal lead and it was Port's turn to play catch up. Leanne did just that as she blasted the doughnut between the * pipes. St. Laurent thought' they had it all sewn up as they scored with 3 minutes remaining but Jen E. had a different idea as she and Janine Hammond teamed up to score ending the game in a 5-5 tie. Game 2 saw Port face off + against the host team from Gloucester. This gas saw Jen Donnelly earn a well deserved shut-out as Port easily skated to an 8-0 win. Janine picked up 'an amafing 5 goals and 3 assists with Brooke Shanley rounding out the 0. Nova Scotia snuck one by Jen D. with 24 second remaining to end the game ' 65-1. But it will be several days or longer before Port knows who their opponent will be when they try for their second all-Ontario title in three years. Head coach Jamie Menzies told the Citizen the opponent will be either Sutton or Mooretown who are plafing off in a semi final series now with Mooretowr! ahead ene game to zero in a best of five affair. Menzies said he hasn't seen either Mooretown or Sutton in action this season, but because of the vast difference in travel time he would much prefer to take on Sutton which is about an hour's drive from Port Perry. Mooretown, near Sarnia, is about a six hour drive from Port Perry. The Juveniles defeated , Cobourg to gain a berth in the all-Ontario championship. Port led the series three games to two, but lost on home icé in game six last week. However, the Port Perry club filed an official protest over the game and the OMHA togk the win away frgm Cobourg and awarded it to Port Perry. The protest was lodged because the Cobourg coach, - under suspension for game six, was in the Cobourg dressing room between periods, contrary to the rules of the suspension. The stage was set for a very exciting overtime period. The pace was fast and hard in the overtime period but Port's Kathleen Rojas scored tHe winner on a powerplay goal with Janine and Cathy picking up the assists. What a well deserved win for these hard working girly, When they put the goal medals around their necks they did Port Perry proud as they only garried 10 skaters and a goalie so all the girls had to give 100% efforts which they so richly did.
