Preemies warm and toasty thanks to Dorothy By Heather McCrae Premature babies born at the Community Memorial Hospital are going to spend the first days of their lives warm and toasty, thanks to the generosity of Dorothy Byers of Raglan. Last week Dorothy donated several sets of "preemie" baby bonnets, booties and mittens to the hospital's New Life Centre. ' Always Taking some- thing for her grand- children, Dorothy got the idea of knitting clothing for premature babies after my) thumb will now keep a preemie's hands warm. The bonnets are so tiny, it's hard to visualize a baby .with such a wee her niece gave birth to a (head. two pound baby. "It's difficult finding stores that carry clothing for preemies," Dorothy said. With Darlene Culp donating some of the wool, Dorothy's done the rest. AGM Ron Brown popular Canadian author and historian will give a talk and slide presentation at the + Annual Genera] Meeting of the Lake Scugog Historical Society on Thursday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. Brown is the author of a number of works on the more obscure history of Ontario. He is best known for his "Ghost" books; Ghost Towns of Ontario, volumes 1 and 2, Ghost Towns of Ontario, A Field Guide, Ghost Towns of Canada and Backroads of * Ontario. Through his nine books on the history of Ontario, he has: uncovered much of the long forgotten history of our province. His longtime fascination with the railways of Ontario, has led to major works on the topic; The Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore, and his latest book Ghost Railways of Ontario. It is the last topic which will be the focus of his presentation on March 28. Ron's presentation will include many glides from his extensive collection of photographs. of extinct railways of Ontario. He will . be including slides of the Port Whitby, Port Perry and Lindsay- Railway, the old oo] "Nip and Tuck". Due to the expected large attendance,the meeting will be held in the Town Hall 1873 at Queen and Simcoe Streets in Port Perry. This'meeting is also the Annual General Meeting of the Lake Scugog Historical Socety and will be concerned with the annual election of officers and the annual report of the Society. The meeting will get underway at 7:30 p.m. and it is hoped that the business portion can be , completed by 8:00 so that the , balance of the evening can be devoted to Ron Brown's presentation. Admission is frei all members of the Lake Scugog Historical Society but there will be a charge of $2.00 to all non-members. Isn't it Nifty ... Helping the hospital seems to run in.the Byers' family. .
