The first game was on March 15 against South Point, a team from Windsor area. Even though they were equally matched and Port had a fair share of penalties, 'end to end action continued thru out the gagne with Port coming out on top with a 1 - 0 win. Our lone goal was scored by Matt MacMaster and assisted by Scott Dyncan. «+ Earning the shut out and MVP was our man between the pipes, Carl Evans. Our next game was early that evening against Scott Park from Hamilton. The bdys kept the pressure on thru out the game winning 5 - 0. Chris Monsma guarded the net stopping several good shots. Scoring for Legionnaires was Dean: VanCamp (2), Jason Whitworth (2) and Sean Jeffrey (1). Earning assists during the game were Scott Duncan, Dave Justynski, Steve Wygerde, Braden Tarbotton, Chris Skerratt, Grant Hooker, Matt MacMaster and Mark Blakely. Dean VanCamp was hgnoured with MVP. Saturday morning on March 16th the Legionnaires hit the ice at/ 8 a.m. against Pelham, Welland winning 5 - 2. Both teams hustled hard, keeping the pressure on, then with legs than a minute into the second peri VanCamp put Port oghie score board with an unassisted goal. Minutes later Dave Gray and Matt MacMaster dug the puck out and, passed it to Jason Whitworth who let it fly into the net. With 2 - 0 lead Pelham pressed harder and managed to score twice. Now with a tie game Port regrouped and hustlers Braden Tarbotton and Scott Bronson scored the next two goals. Assists going to Matt, Davé and Sean. Our strong defenseman Sean Jeffrey earned MVP. Saturday evening Port met up with Garson, Sudbury. Malmont Farms drew first blood with Justin Moffatt storing with an assist going to Jamie Smith. Minutes later | tied the score. ort took the lead again in the second with Jeff Tarbotton finding the net and assists going to Chet Martin and Jamie Smith. As well as Port played Pelham was not to be outdone as they scored 2 unanswered goals in the 3rd. Game 5, A final Sunday, March 17, Cambridge opened the scoring in the first period only to have Malmont Farms storm back a minute later with Trevor rifling a shot past the goalie. Assisting on the play was Justin Moffatt «and Dylan Harper. This was a hard fought battle but Port prevailed scoring the next 2 goals of the 2nd period. The firste from Jeff assisting was - Trevor and Chet, and the next goal was Justin from Kevin. This gave Port Perry a commanding 2 goal lead. Cambridge scored again halfway though the third period to.close the gap but Port held strong and went on to win. What a good way to end the season. On behalf of all the parents thank you coaches and boys for a fun season and thank you*Fred for filling in for Theresa for the tournament. Mark and Jason earning the assists. MVP for an excellent game was Dean VanCamsy. The weekend action left packed their year with the Wellahd Tournament Championship. After the opening game in Port last Thursday night ended in a 4-4 deadlock, the eries moved to Sutton Sunday evening for another game that went' into overtime. Sutton pushed hard in this OT period looking for the win but strong work by" Pashley kept them off the board and the teams had to settle for a single point. Game four is March 27 in Sutton,at 9:00 PM and the series wings back to the Scugog Arena Saturday, March 80 at 9:00 PM. Two wins or a win and tie will give Port the eight points needed to take championship. That could happen Saturday night at the Scugog Arena.
