wr 18 Scugog Citizen ~ Tuesday, April 76, 1996 yd 'PPHS team wins Skills Challenge Gold By Heather MeCrae A team of three Grade +11 PPHS students - Jamie Campbell, Adam Beal and Graeme Poyell - earned a gold medal at the annyal, Durhanr Skill Challenge recently. Competing in the Youth Technology category, the students from Barry "Nesbitt's Technological Studies class were up against teams from nine other high schools within the Durham Region. The Durham Skills Challenge, which originated over 5 years ago, is held every Spring, offering competitions in 31 various categories. Although this isn't the first time a team ffom the high school has competed, it was a first time effort to compete in the Youth and Technology division. Each team was given a different theme, then had 3 school days (March 28, 29, April 1) to produce g video and other data. In that time frame, using a video-camera, the editing suite of PPHS and For the first time ever, a team of three PPHS students entered the Youth and Technology competition in the Durham Skills Challenge and ¢ame home with a Gold Medal. Training Centre Whitby computers / Desktop Publishing, Jamie, Adam and Graeme produced a video and, an accom- panying brochure with its own original logo. Their short scenario was about a student going tp the Guidance Department for counselling. With Adam filming, Jamie played the role of the student while Graeme acted out-the part of the counsellor. ~Letting their imagination and knowledge take over, the three -minute script had narration and music incorporated into it as well. Adjudication took place at Pineridge Secondary School on Apfil 2 by staff . from the media centre of the Durham Board. The silver medal was awarded to Ajax High School where Mr. Nesbitt taught Automotive Co- Op and Communications for 21 years before coming to PPHS two years ago.
