Engines 1223 KING ST MANCHESTER 985-9909 Students at Por Perry High School ad have noticed a "alight" change in the appearance of teachers Peter Talbot; Gail . Chellew and vice principal" Barbara Farrow. They had some colour applied to their hair in the form of spray paint in front of a lot of witnesses in the gym last' Friday afternoon. No, they have not decided to make a fashion statement of some sort. The new colours in the my" Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, April 30, 1996--%& - hair was all in good fun and for a good cause-the Cancer Society. Home room students for Mrs. Chellew and Mr. Talbot came up with the most funds: for the Cancer Society over the last couple of weeks ($320 and $304 respectively) and as their "reward" got to spray the locks of VP Farrow, who was a great sport about it all. And it seems Mr. Talbot and Mrs. Chellew had some sort of "challenge" over the fund-raising and they ended up applying red and blue paint to each other's hair. The Cancer Society fund- prising drive at, PPHS was organized by Christy Holtby, Erica Goreski and Amy Sinclair. It was a huge success, no doubt helped in no small part by the opportunity to touch up the vp's hair-style with a bit of colour. Over $2000 was turned over to Cancer Society, and Scugog campaign volunteer Doris Taylor was delighted with the amount. Mrs. Taylor had high words of praise for the efforts of the students at PPHS during April which is the fund-raising month for the Society. Asked how they were able to talk Ms. Farrow into allowing her hair to be spray-painted in front of a large crowd of students, Christy chuckled and said "she had a choice--the paint or have her head shaved." 'Pastels' at the Farndale Gallery 'Pastels' - The work of Maureen Dorinda Ham, opens with a reception for the public tp meet the artist from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. Show continues till May 24 at Scugog Memorial Library, 231 Water Street, Port Perry. Maureen Dorinda is a fine artist whose work over the past twenty years has focused on . florals, landscapes and 'print- making. Her passion for nature and the human experience is the force underlying her work. We see in her paintings, simplicity and truth. She can eapture both the delicate and the bold with ease. Maureen has a fresh eclectic style. Her work has been influenced by the clarity of Japanese and Chinese traditional schools. Georgia O'Keefe, her favourite American artist, has affected her work as can be seen in some of her almost microscopic treatments. The fancifulness of the Ifhpressionists is also present. Whether it is a Canadian snowfall, a budding apple blossom, or the brilliance of light on the Aegean Sea, the vibrancy speaks. Never static, her work emits energy. Maureen holds degrees in psychology and arts from Canadian universities. She is a teacher who has developed a unique art program for adult students - in the Durham Region. She revels in proving to each student that he has an "innate. artistic" ability. A multi-media artist, primgrily in watercolours and pastels, Maureen is currently experimenting in the relatively" new watercolour monoprint medium, which she reports allows for greater delicacy translucence and spontaneity. Her original paintings are exhibited in private and ¢ te collections in Canada, the Unitéd States and Europe. "See you for coffee at.the library on May 4.
