. IN pd " Scugog Citizen -- Wednesday, May 22, 1996-- 7 a Local lumber off to Germany by Heather McCrae A new concept in home building has been happening at Lake Scugog Lumber. For three days last week staff were carefully packing two gigantic containers full of materials needed to build a home. But; the house isn't going to be built here. Instead, the materials are being shipped overseas = to eastern Germany, all part of a pilot project the local lumber company is _involved in. It was over three months ago when Heinz Wleklinski of Tanica International in Ashburn approached the folks at: Lake Scugog Lumber. The Ashburn resident is dnvolved in a housing project in Germany where 200 homes have been proposed for a subdivision. The local lumber company was chosen to supply materials for the ~model home as it could, supply completed floor and roof trusses and materials needed to complete the project. It took three months before the design of the model home was finished and materials sorted out for the pilot project. Once the design was agreed on between Tanica International and Lake Scugog Lumber, the floor All the materials needed to bulld a house In a subdivision in eastern Germany 'were shipped from Lake Scugog Lumber last Tuesday. Heinz Wieklinskl, left, of Tanica International in Ashburn, has been working on the pilot project with Lake Scugog Lumber owner Ted Gritten fog. several weeks. See story, and roof trusses were made at the Port Perry plant. Last wéek these and the rest of the materials were shipped overseas to the site, Ted Giffin, owner of the lumber company, said it's cheaper to buy supplies in Canada gad ship them to Germany, rather than buy in their country. "They don't build quality at an affordable price" he explained, adding, for the" same structure, housing 'son, prices are at least double in Germany compared to what they'd be here. "It's been interesting" his Ian, said. "Who knows, maybe 'we'll be opening up a new market." If the work schedule goes well, it's expected the house will be finished if 6 to 8 weeks. Then, it's highly likely Lake Scugog Lumber will be the source of more materials needed to build the subdivision. Laurentian Bank celebrates milestone Let's celebrate 150 yeas of service!
