{ J The Port Perry Legion .squirt fastball club played a pair of games this past week and although they lost both games they could* have ust as easily been on the winning end. All they needed were a couple of timely hits. The Legionaires first game was on Wednesday, May 22nd, as they travelled to Pickering. Port got off to a good start as they quickly built up a 3-0 lead in their first at bat of the game. ' Pickering did the same inj the bottom of the first inning to tie things up at 3 apiece. After Port went scoreless in the second inning Pickering grabbed a 6-3 lead in the home half. The Legionaires fought back and again tied the game up at 6 apiece with another 3 run inning in the 3rd. The score stayed this + way until the bottom of the fourth when Pickering picked up four more runs to take a 10-6 lead. The Legionaires are a gritty bunch however, and , they once again fought back to retake the lead as they pushed across five runs in the top of the fifth "inning. With the score now 11-10 in the Legionaires , favour, they tried to hang "on but just failed as Pickering picked up two runs. in their half of the inning and took the game by a 12-11 final score. Geoff Greiveon and Shane Squirts miss the hits Jeffery shared the pitching duties in this game and both did a fine job, Hitting for the Legionaires in this game were; Shane Jeffery with a single and . a walk, Shannon Deering, Luke Pilkey and Geoff Greivson each with a single and two walks, Mike Lycett with a single, Kyle Bannon and Brent Wagg-had a walk each while Josh Kendell, Andrew Hill and Lucas Fraser had two walks each. The - Legionaires next game was at home on Thursday, May 23rd as they took on the Willowdale Bruins. This ghmeggvas quite a pitching duel as Geoff Greivson of the Legionaires was on the mound and putting on a strong performance for the hometown crowd as he went the distance putting ina ance. After three 'innings Willowdale held onto a slim 2-0 lead but in the top of the fourth they picked up three more runs to take - a 5-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth Geoff got his team back into the game as with two on, the smacked a line drive into the gap and hustled around the bases to pick up the teams first home run of the year. Willowdale managed to pick up another two runs in the top of the fifth to take a 7-3 lead that would Major Mosquitos off to a great start The Scugog Baseball Association Major Mosquito Rep team is off to a great start in their first week of play. The boys have won three straight to open the season. They began by pounding Orono 23-5 in their home park with all twelve players contributing to the scoring. In their home opener, Scugog continued to hit the ball hard and often-beating Ennismore 12-5. Once again, all players contributed to the scoring. This year's team is looking very good and the following boys should be congratulated for making the team; Matthew Sherriffs, Chet Martin, Matthew Roth, Jordan Froats, John Darvwala, Keenan Geer, Colin Holditch, Jeff Talmey, Leo Tailten, Ryan Hnatko, Matthew, McLaren, Ryan Petch and Daryl Copithorn.
