Scugog Citizen -- To, July 9, 1991 -- 16_da Grand tradition of dressage carries on The Oshawa Pony Club held its annual Dressage Show July 7 at Hoskins Stables, Blackstock. Riders and horses in the show were from Durham, Kawartha, Leitchcroft, Baltimore, Uxbridge 'and the host Oshawa Pony Club. Dressage is the art of training horses to perform all movements in a balanced, supple, obedient and keen manner. This pedigree of classical rid- ing goes back to the ancient Greeks who needed well-trained cavalry, men* who could control their horses with one hand.' Through the ages, cavalry schools have been certres for equestrian excellence. Dressage was first included in the Olympics in 1912 and today, the sport flour- ishes around the world. There were 68 competitors in' the show on Sunday. Pat King was convenor and judges were Barb Quinn and Norah Ferguson. Following are the top thrée winners in each category along with the clubs they represent. Class 1-beginner: Sarah Rae, Baltimore; Krystal Ann Shingler, Oshawa; Jenny Rae, Baltimore. 'Soccer clubhouse is one step closer Work 1s expected to get upder- way this summer on the long awaited club-house at the Scugog Soccer Fields "We are hoping to get started quickly and have it built by the end of year," Ron Cosway wld the Citizen last week . Mr. Cosway satd a $23,000 grant from the provincial govern ment was approved two weeks ago. That will cover about one- third of the cost for the 20X40 brick building that will have a meeting pom, equipment room, showers for players, and public washrooms. Greenbank downs Brigar Greenbank Bakery 'defeated Brigar 12-6 in a Pee Wee/Bantam game played at the Legion fields on July 1. The game | started with Greenbank's Jamie Donnelly tak- ing a walk and Trevor McSwain on his 3rd strike somehow got to second base to score Jamie. Tim Irwin hit a nice single to score Trevor. Brigar came back with Cam Cook and Steve scoring for their team. score two RBIs and Carl Phoenix hit Trevor and Tim home. In the second, Brigar's Cook and Darren got a run each. Mike Balmforth hit and double and Tim Irwin's homer brought brought both of them home. Brigar came back with Steven's single, and Greg Rankin's great home run. Brian Bacon had a great game catching and Tim Irwin had a nice game on the mound while getting three hits. For Brigar, Greg Rankin had a homer and three RBIs. Josh Duncan pitched well and Cam Cook went three for three. In Squirt Boys action, Perfect SpoetsLand Mark Ward hit a nice triple to Heating hosted Anderson Chev Olds in Greenbank on July 2. The final was 20-10 for the Heaters with plenty of walks to both teams. Andrew Donnelly had two hits and was stong on defense and Kevin Durward made a great catch. Mike Phoneix clouted two homers and five RBIs. * For Anderson, Chris Orr made a great double play at second and Jamie Sauter hit a grand slam in" the first. Both teams thank Mr. Kowalczuyk for volunteering to handle the umpire chores. Banner missing At the recent Port Perry Minor Hockey Banquet and Awards Night, the banner pre- sented to the Precision Construction Midget 'BB championship team went missing.
