wp 16-- Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, July 9, 1991 Mosport's heat just never cools The fast and furious Saturday night stock car action continued this past weekend at Mosport International Speedway with vari- ous winners in cach of the feature races as well as a very special event, the ladies race in street stock cars. The Ladies race is made up of wives and girlfriends of the guys who race every weekend. They generously donate the us their cars so there is a bit of a variety in the program and a great show for the fans. The first one ran ghout a month ago and was so pepular the pro- moters decided to bring it back for another go. Due to run the previ- ous week, it was postponed due to poor weather. Sy ' Once again, it was just as thrilling as the, first time with lots of exciting chases and nose-to- nose racing. Taking the win and victory lap with the checkered flag was Janet Marshall of Peterborough. Sh& was followed by Donna Smith of Blackstock and Elaine Salmers of Janetville. In the Street Stock Class, the winner of the evening was Andy Warbutton of Oshawa as he clinced two of the heat races as well as the feature. Fred Shepstone of Port Perry was a close-second as he also won one of the heats.. Bob Franks of Omemee was third. In the sportsmen class, Randy Slack had a very good outing as he won both a heat and the fea- ture. He was followed in the fea- "ture by Stuart Robinson Jr. of Holland Landing and Ken Donaldson of Sharon. The fans were treated to two late model features races this week (due to rain last week) and they were both most exciung. In the first late model feature, Wayne Williams of Unionville grabbed the win followed by Al Thompson of Uxbridge and Rino Montanari of Stouffville. . In the second Late Model Street Stock event, Tom Milligan of Unionville was the winner with Rod Sauder of Port Perry in sec- ond and At Thomson third. This coming Saturday evening, Mosport International Speedway presents a special event-the Bud 250-which includes racing in the ACT (American Canadian Tour) series. And for the first time, the Supermodifieds, the CASCAR Stockers and the regular Saturday night ricing action. Gates open Saturday at 1:30 PM and Sunday at 10:00 AM. Don't miss it. Squirt soccer action In, Squirt Soccer action City Capital defeated Team H 8-6 as Jef Crosier-had five goals with one each to Tony Boomsma and Joseph Farquharson for the win- ners. For Team H Trevor Lance had five goals and one came for Trevor Robins. Manvers J, defeated Rotary 6-2 as Colin Davis had four goals. Others were marked by Brian Kruk and Dylan Morin. Bret McGill and Patti Thomas both had good games. vers 2 team defeated Team E 3-2. Daved Halward scored both goals for Team E. (No report on Manvers scoring) Team G and Scugog Lumber played to a 5-5 draw. Justin Bates had all five goals for Lumber with Justin Moffat and Tyler Houthys getung two and Jason Johanen one for Team G. Arm wrestlin For the 6th year in a row, the Festival Tent is the venue for arm wrestling competitions on Saturday, July 13. With $5,000 in prize: money up for grabs for the pros and plenty of nice trophies for the amateurs, organizer Mike Haigh said he expects the competition will attract around 100 entrants from all over Ontario, including members of the Port Perry Club. There is no admission to watch the ¢ itions that get under- way at 12:30 PM sharp. Mites solid with bats The Port Perry Minor Softball Mites (9-10) got solid pitching and plenty of hits as they defeated D.J. Taylor Insurance 16-6 in a game played June 3 at Cawker Field. They belted out 14 hits and had eight walks in this one, with some of the offense sup- plied by Jason Nicholas Issacs and Beau Jolicoeur.
