Residents fed up with roadblocks By Cathy Olliffe, Sick and tired of the police roadblocks in their village, a group of Caesarea residénts have launched a petition to end what they are calling 'harassment'. For the fourth weekend this summer, officers from both Durham. Regional Police and Ontario Provincial Police set up a R.I.D.E. program, blocking the only two entrances/exits into «Caesarea: one at the fire hall on Regional Road 57; the other on Regional Road 57 at Park St. The roadblocks were in effect Friday evening, and all day Saturday. From 8 a.m. until well into the night Saturday, officers stopped cars going ih and out of Caesarea, asking drivers if they had been drinking, and requesting identifi- cation. ®Aithough not present last weekend, Durham's tactical unit, automatic weapons, police dogs and armored vehicles have all been at the hall during at least one of these R.I.D.E. programs.
