In their fig outing of the day, the Port tem came up against a tough squad from Napanee and Jason "Heyworth was sharp on the mound as he tossed a three hitter. But Napanee came out on top 5-2 with all five runs un-earned as Port made some costly errors in the field. And the boys could not put some hits together as they strand- ed 10 (count 'em, 10) runnérs. 'Marc Versage, Ryan Hawkins and Brad Monsma led with two hits each while Ryan Williamson .and Doug Short each chipped in with a hit. * In game two, the opponent was Cobourg and once again the Port boys seemed to be able to get on base but were not able to cash in those'runs. * Port was leading 7-6 when the runs finally started to come across as they built a 14-6 lead to "mercy" the game. Jason Best got the win for Port on the/hill. Marc Versage and Scott Jeffrey helped the cause with some fine catches in the field. In the hit parade, Jdson Best and Jason Heyworth had three each and a walk, Ryan Williamson belted two hits and Doug Short one. Marc Versage came closé to A Tournament champions The Country Style Donuts team of Seagrave won the annual Youth Lob Ball tournament July 19-21 sponsored by the Seagrave Parks Board. The team had wins of 18-14 over Centennial Lanes; 17-3 over Marsh Hill Jerseys; and 9-4 over Lil Gators in the final. They lost to the same Gators 17-9 to force the deciding game. No report from LSL: Tyler Houth had two goals and Justih Mgffat had one as Team G nipped Raglan Welding 3-2. For Raglan, Katie Beirness and Glen Thomson did the scor- ing. . David Halward kicked two and Afhanda Svendson one as Team E defeated City Capital 3-0. And Manvers defeated Rotary 5-0 as.Chase Charland had two , with one each to Jamie Cameron, Ashley Nowtenboom and Sasha Lohse the day pyt them against a tcam from Amherstview, and they were really fired up in this one. Taking a lead from Ryan Hawkins and his keen eye at the plate, the boys showcl lots of patience and it paid off in 11 walks. They got a few hits as well and the result was an 11-0 "mercy" win for Port Perry, Heyworth was in fine form as he fanned eight and surrendered just one hit. Ryan Puckrin hit a home run in this one. Despite the two victories, the Legionaires failed to advance to the finals because they had lost tq Napanee. Both teams had identical records. \ Still, the coaching staff was pleased with the effort thay day and viewed the tournament as a good tune-up for the OASA play offs that are just around the cor- ner. In league play July 25, the Squirts hooked up with Stouffville and they needed a win to move into d first place te. The visitors got a quick jumps scoring 14 runs in the first four innings. Port scrambled back with five runs and then nine 'more 10 narrow the gap to 16-14. But that was all they 'could manage and the game ended 17-14. . Casey Van Schagen hit a pair of homers with: ether hits going to Jason Best, Doug Short, Marc Versage Brad Mondma and Ryan Hawkins.
