Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, August 13, TRT--3T % Introducing 'Blue Collar Bart! FRIDAY NIGHTS! ANOTHER HARD WORK WEEK 1S DoNE! IT's TIME WHEN | GET HOME I'LL S6E MY LOVING WEE, HER. ARMS BATENDED, WAITING To EMBRACE THE ONE THING SHE HOLDS. DEAR w.( Building permits lagging Construction starts in Scugog Township continue to lag behind 1990, according to a recent report from the municipality. The number of building per- mits issued and the dollar value are both down over the same peri- od last year. For the first six months of this year, 131 permits had been issued, worth just over $8.5 million. By contrast, for the same six months in 1990, the Township issued 165 permits worth about $10.7 million. The most significant decline this year is in construction of new homes. So far, there have been just 24 permits issued; worth $5.4 million. That figure may be a bit mis-leading as it includes the $2 million permit for a new seniors citizens "apartment building behind the' Immaculate Conception School and Church. Last year at. this time, the Township had issued 46 new , home permits, worth Justo over $7 million. Reasons for the downturn in new "house construction include the pverall economy and the lack of serviced and available land in Scugog at this time. Tougher reg- ulations have made it more diffi- cult to develop lots in rural areas as well. And the slump in building is not confined just to the number of new homes. The report indicates that just about every sector (farm, industrial, commercial) is off from last year. For example, the number of permits for additions and alter- ations 10 homes has dropped from 54 last year to 37 so far in 1991. +'And the value of the permits was down as well, from $1.19 million to $1.12 million. One sector that showed a small * up-turn over last year is the num- ber of swimming pools. There have been permits issued so far for 19 pools, worth $241,000. During the same six months last year, the number was 14 and the value was $177,000. A compafison of the month of June shows 41 permits issued this year, compared with 31 a year ago. The value of June's permits was $3.4 million (that indies the $2 million for the seniors apart- ments) Last June fhe value was just over $2.1 million Som Attention all Candidates ; forthe. - SCUGOG MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS 'Tuesday, November 12th, 1991 AV ATy vex (d COUNTS is available (at no cost) to EVERY RESIDENCE in SCUGOG TOWNSHIP with 4 circulation of 9,000 and a readership of approRimalely 25,000.
