The office was originally opened by the Western Bank of Canada at the suggestion of Mr. H. G. Hutcheson and was operated as sub-agency to the Port Perry office of which he was manager. W. J. (Jack) White, who was later killed in service overseas, was put in charge. Shortly afterwards the Western Bank was absorbed by the Standard Bank, but the agency was continued and when the Farmers Bank--which had opened at Nestleton Station--failed, Mr. Hutcheson drove over--they were still using horses--and put up a pla- card announcing that The Standard Bank would open in the building which had been occupied by the Farm- ers Bank. The two branches were placed under the Port Perry office with Mr. White as sub-agent. Later they were removed from Port Perry control as the business had reached considerable size and a local manager was installed over the two. After the amalgamation of the Standard with the Commerce the offices were con- tinued. Corner, who was at one time on the 'Port Perry staff, has been manager. The Nestleton Branch was discon- tinued some time ago and with the|' closing of the Blackstock branch Cartwright Township is left without a bank. Mr. Corner joins the staff ot the Commerce here and his former friends will give him a- welcome, PORT PERRY UNITED CHURCH 11 am.--Rev. W. J. H. Smyth 'in charge. 1.46 p.m.--Mr. T. G.
