Don. J. Shepherd, "= President "Secretary. L ° Bible Society Editor of the Star: Dear Sir,--Many of your readers will _be interested to hear the results of the collections for the British and] Foreign Bible Society of Canada, for this year in Port Perry. The total amount collected and sent to the head office in Toronto was $74.48. This is a very creditable amount and is some better than the past three or four years, though not as much as used to be sent, for some years before hard times contracted the money market. The president and members of the executive wish to express their thanks to those who gave towards this great missionary ~~ organization, without which our church missions, especially in foreign fields, could not begin to do so effective work. We wish also to express our appreciation and thanks to the eight ladies who so kindly gave of their time for the collections. J. B. Two blocks along Simcoe" street from Queen to Alma. Two blocks along Caleb street, from Queen to Clark. Two blocks along Lilla street, from Balsam to Bay. This has been-a valuable addition to the fire protection of the village, and the Council are to be thanked for this progressive move. Consider- able employment was given by the laying of these mains; and this, of course, is another advantage. The local waterworks system has been in a good financial position of late years. It has lately been more than self-supporting. It does not do anything to provide drinking water, as a chlorinating system would have town are in good condition. Even it done, it is not likely that the users would wish to pay for the extra cost, when their present source of pure water is good, and costs only the effort of pumping. --_-- dP ~~ COURT OF REVISION The Court of Revision sat in Port Perry on Monday, November 16th, There were not many appeals. RR i ii THE LATE JOHN PALMER Mr. Palmer was born in Dovonshire, England, in the year 1846, and passed away in Port Perry, on November 14, 1936. In the year 1856 he came to Canada with his parents as a lad of ten, crossing the Atlantic in a sailing ves- sel, taking six weeks for the trip on the water. His first town of abode was Whitby, Ontario, where he 're- ceived his early education, In 1876 at the age of twenty-one, he was united in marriage to Sarah Blanchard of Whitby. Two years later he moved to Port Perry and opened a butcher business on the pre- 'sent site of the bowling green, and later Mr. S. Cawker became a partner in the business. After six years had passed Mr. Palmer bought a bush farm and lumber business on tHe sixth concession of Reach, just west of the village of Port Perry. In the second year a fire broke out and there was eight hundred acres of timber, tan bark, lumber and wood, all on fire at one time. He then moved back to Port Perry and resided there until his death,-a period of seventy-five years, He was a Deacon in the Baptist Church here, also a local minister of the same 'church, The 'deceased is survived by nine children: William of Oshawa; George of Peterboro; Walter of Midland; 'Lewis and Norman of Brockville; Thomas of Port Perry; Mrs. E. Raines, and Mrs, Thomas Stewart, of Port Perry. | He is also survived by thirty grand- children and twenty-four great grand- children, to be installed, and the wells in the}: - the chlorinating of the water was|™ Phones-- Office 73 wi Res. 73], : ¢ £ * Agua may eard again at some future] = : : WE FIT time, : Nottingham was 'held from his late [i= EA s S WE REPAIR [5m 7 bo, bd te ov ons conden te wiv sos [| |» ova 00' Drug Store Nev R25. tested are now begi and spoke words of comfort to thel|| lAWIences Drug Store News || y : the remmva f Intoted Sey rye grief stricken parents in the tragic : otic Rexall Be 4 their herds » t ITOM | death of their little son.
