Many young anglers have been fre- quenting the 'locks on Lindsay St. N. of late in search of suckers with no results. It seems. that fish as well as humans are particular at times and are evading the muddy waters of the Scugog as much as possible. All the chaps * who are planning "hookey" some fine afternoon to "net" a bagful of these coveted fish might just as well abandon the idea as apparently they have given up their usual place of abode for a more secluded spot. Lockmaster Nicol, in conversation with the Post today, told a sad story of dissappointed faces peering into the waters below 'the locks in a vain hunt for the friendly suckers who each year make their way into local waters in great numbers about this time to pro- vide 'sport and sometimes cash for juvenile anglers. "The lads arrive with expectant faces and high hopes, they come day after day prepared to engage in the usual spring sport but they are always disappointed and they have 'pretty well given it-up as a bad job," said Mr. Nicol. ' The ¢mijld weather and somewhat warm muddy water is believed respon- sible for the dearth of suckers this Spring. Local youngsters who are authorities on the subject, state that they cannot recall a previous Spring absolutely devoid of suckers. '"Some- times they are better than athers,; but j| always before there has been a few, what's the use of living, everything seems 'to be getting tougher all the the time for us: kids," said one local youth in expressing his views on the sucker _situatioh - "--Lindsay Post ------ CARD OF THANKS | " Mrs. J. Northern Highway|r _Additional' contracts. for highway construction "in. Victoria-Haliburton have just been awarded according to advice given the Post today by Wm. Newman, M.L.A., who has been suc- cessful in securing a large amount of money in Government estimates for = | road work'to be used in, this, constitu- ency. 'Contracts amounting to two hund- red thousand dollars for road work on the Kinmount-Gooderham highway ($160,000) and the Haliburton-Minden highway ($40,000) have been let and the work will commence as soon as the frost is sufficiently out of the 3| ground to permit it. Tenders have been called for the ¢ | paving of the Lindsay-Peterboro high- *| way, No. 7, from Lindsay to Hillhead. It is expected the amount to<be ex- pended 'on this road wil be in the neighborhood of one hundred thousand dollars, * A great improvement in local roads | and a large a mount of work for ds- % | trict men will result from these high- ¢%| way construction contracts, --Lindsay Post. ¥ ASA £ $i Ee $k Yi A ad ify Esha a RT 5 rad Yi: A fre ki IE a Hii > SE ¥ TE a : > ASHBURN The Y.
