A 'good attendance, During the business part of the meeting it 'was decided to pack the bale for Western Canada on Tuesday evening, August 24th. Meeting opened with hymn 494 "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Mrs. Robert Heron led in prayer. Readings were given by Mrs. J. Duff, Mrs. Robt. Heron, and Mrs. H. Doble. Vocal solo by Mrs. Edgar Heron, "Jesus--a place to hide me in"; piano duet by Mrs. R. Walker and Mrs. N. Anderson. Meeting closed with hymn 798 after which a dainty lunch was served by the hostess. Mr. Fred Stephen had the misfor- tune to fall from the cultivator, when the seat broke and fractured three ribs. Miss Marion Spencer has returned to Toronto & er spending a week at her home here. Mr. Walter Kerr visited his mother Mrs. A. Kerr, of Agincourt, last Sun- day. Mrs. Scott of Séagrave who has been the guest of her friend Mrs. M. Cassidy, is spending a fewday with Mrs. Long at Myrtle. Those who enjoyed the boat trip to Niagara from our community were Mrs. Colemire and daughter Patsy, Miss Margaret and Mr. Alfred Fisher, Mrs. H. Doble and daughter Florence, Mrs. Robt. Ed. Halburt visited in Fenelon Falis on Thursday. On Saturday evening, Mrs. Norman Robinson entertained a number ot friends at Williams' Point in honour of Mrs. W. K. Greatrix, who is soon leaving to spend the winter in Florida. A corn and weiner roast was cooked in the new quaint barbecue recently built by Mr. Geo. Humpage on the spacious lawn of Mr. Robinson's sum- mer residence at Robin's Nest. The lovely old folk songs and popular airs sounded so sweet out over the waters of Lake Scugog and along the moon- D Among the guests were the sister and niece of Mr. Robison, Mrs. and Burkhart, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr, and Mrs. Harold Halbert, Mrs. Ireland and Mrs. Kincaid, of Williams: Point drove to Callander to see the Quintuplets on Tuesday, Aug. 8rd, but on account of rain the babies were not shown to the public. On Monday, August 9th, they drove north again, hoping for better luck, but were once more disappointed as- the Quints all had colds. Mrs. Wright, formerly of Pittsburg, is the guest of Mrs, R. Jackson. Miss M. Frost spent Monday in To- ronto. Mrs. Will Lawrence, of Toronto, spent a few days last week with her brother-in-law Mr. John C. Lawrence. Mrs. Harry Hook and family, of Toronto, visited the former's parents Mr. and Mrs. G. Hahn last week. ,"Cutting-in" was said to be respons- ible for a very bad accident midway between the two Myrtles on Saturday afternoon when a car owned by Mel- vin Blyth, of Toronto, had its fenders clipped by another car, the driver lost control and the car landed on its side in the ditch between two trees and was badly wrecked. Two lady occu- pants were quite badly hurt but on receiving first aid were able to pro- ceed on their journey. Carelessness and the increasing speed are making travelling on the highway by any means of transportation very hazar- dous. Two very bad thunder storms passed over here last week. During the one farmer's aerial south of the village and followed the wire down into the kitchen, but no damage was reported other than giving the occupants a very unpleasant experience for a brief period. Many from here were in attendance at the funeral of Dr. John Moore ot Brooklin, on Friday afternoon and sadly paid their last réspects to the "Family Doctor", who so kindly and skillfully ministered when ever called upon to help those who needed medical care. Much sympathy is felt for the sorrowing widow and niece in "this their hour of grief. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Davidson, of Aurora, Ill, visited the latter's sister Mrs, Hattie Hudgins, last week, Mrs. Davidson was formerly Miss Lillian]. Hoar, and spent her girlhood days here, and each time she visits here she notices many changes and removals of many of her old friends. With a score of 7-6 the local ball boys wound up the season by defeat- ing the East Enders of Whitby, last week and are to be congratulated on their high standing for the season. Rev. and Mrs. Honey returned from their holidays on Friday. Mr, Honey occupied the pulpit at the four ap- pointments, and service for the bal- ance of the fall will be at the usual alternate hours.
