Woods, on Sunday, July 17th, 1938, a son--Robert Dennis, OBITUARY There passed away, suddenly, on Thursday evening, June 23rd, 1938, in Port Perry, Mary Lavina Wallis, wife of Roy St. John, Chief Constable. Although in poor health for a num- ber of years, her death came as a great shock to her many relatives and friends. The deceased was born in Mariposa near Little Britafn, in '1882, the only child of Thomas Henry Wallis and Katie McCalder and lived most of her life on the farm, acquired by her grandfather, Neil McCalder, who mi- grated to America from Scotland over one hundred years ago. In 1907 she married Roy St. John of Brock Township, taking up resi- dence there for a time; later returning to the home farm, » About eight years ago, owing to ill health, they rented the farm and moved to Port Perry, where she made many warm friends, who sincerely mourn her passing. Besides her sorrowing husband, she leaves to mourn her loss, one first- cousin, Mrs, F. G. Perrin, and other relatives, and a host of friends. The funeral service was held from her old home church at Little Britain, on Saturday, June 25th, at 2.30 p.m., and was largely attended. Rev. W. J. H. Smyth, Port Perry, her pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. H. H. Hillis, Little Britain, and Rev. J. U. Robins, Trenton, a former pastor and friend. The many beautiful floral tributes, silent tokens of respect, were carried by a number of Port Perry friends. Interment was niade in the adjoin- ing cemetery. The Women's Association met at home of Mrs. Gordon Fishley on Wed- nesday afternoon. The guest speaker was Mrs. A. Nichols of Bowmanville, who spoke on Northern Canada. She was very interesting. We are sorry to report the death of Miss Martha McKee, who passed away at the home of her nephew Mr. Alvin Bruce, on July 16th. She had en- deared herself to a host of friends by her gentle, kindly ways. Rev. J. Me- Lachlan had charge of the funeral ser- vice on Monday afternoon which was largely attended. Interment took place in the Uxbridge Cemetery.
