Bentley's Jewelry Store Port Perry 'Heareia HINTS 4 Qaines Star A LTHOUGH barking the fire is 1 a very simple operation, many «people have trouble with it. Let me explain the method that I have found the most satisfactory. i First (and only if it is neces- sary to make room for fresh coal), gently shake the fire until you see | the first red glow in the ashpit. Then with a shovel or hoe pull the live coals toward the front of the furnace, so that the fire bed slopes downward towards the back. Shovel the fresh coal carefully into the hollow thus formed. And, as in refueling, be sure to leave an ex- posed spot: of live coals right in front of the fire door. This, "hot heck damper open i pot" will act™as a pilot light to - ignite the gases given off by the fresh coal, preventing them from escaping into the house.™ -- When banking the fire for the night, the Ashpit Pamper should be closed and tha Check Damper open. The Turn Damper should ---be left as nearly closed as possible. - "And renieraber, it should never be necessary to leave the fire door- open when the five is banked. If vou follow this procedure, your fire will. stay ia for the night and will deliver ample heat when yon open the drafts in the morning. 4) You save 20% on_ China bought from Bentley's. - Myrtle Station Rev. Geo. Nickle, a_former pastor, I'delivered a fine address on his trip, interested, if not large audience, on Tuesday evening of last week. Those who were not present missed a real treat. When one cannot visit places of fame and interest, the next best thing is to listen to the descriptions: of them by someé one who personally seen them. Mr. Nickle visited many of the places of interest more than once and made a study of them; which Among the out of town guests pre- .sent at the tea were Mrs. Crosley, Mrs. Willis, Mrs. Russell and Mrs. R. J. Harris, of Uxbridge, Mrs. Leask and Mrs. Rowe of Whitby, Mrs. O. Switzer of Toronto, Mrs. Sleep, Mrs. Wooldridge, Mrs. E. Wallace and Mrs. "8. MacFarlane, Seagrave. Mrs. Rowe and Mrs. Switzer delighted the guests - with vocal and instrumental selections. _ Both ladies are former pupils of Port Perry High School and old friends are justly proud of the wonderful contri- bution they are making to the musical world of this district. . The Community room will. be open as usual on Friday afternoon to all in- - terested in Red Cross Work. | Letters of thanks. have been re- ceived from the County Regiment at 'Oshawa for the bale of pillow slips, tea rt Perry. He told as an. intro- duction tof the present conditions in Palestine and the constant' guerello , warfare between the Arabs and the Jews. Then he told of the rough, hilly nature of the land west of_ the plains of the Jordon, the orange groves, the olive orchards and the vineyards on the hillsides which made the country so picturesque to tourists passing from one point to another by bus. - Using a map he pointed out places that we read of in the Bible and which are so old that they seem almost un- real but they were made very real us Mr. Nickle described them; Joppa, by the Mediterranian seaport where the sun is so gleamingly and scorchingly) hot; Nazareth, the home of Jesus; Bethany, where Mary, Martha and Lazarus dwelt; the rich fertile valley of Esdraelon; the Jordon river; Lake of Galilee; Jericho. It was very easy to picture them all in ones mind. He dwelt entirely with old Jesusalem, an area whose circumference is two to three miles and surrounded by a wall. In this part is situated the holy sepulchre as accepted, holy mosque in the temple area, temple of Antonio where Jesus was tried under Pilot, which' was discovered quite recently; garden tomb outside of walls, accepted near grotto of Jeremikh by Procter, tecently discovered by G. Gordon. He contrasted the Holy sepulchre which is accepted by R. C. and. Greek churches as the place where Jesus was crucified and buried with the garden tomb near Golgotha and Jeremiah's Grotto out- side of the walls, and generally & cepted by Prptestants as the m Highly recommended and accepted by leading Bishops.
