Myrtle Station The Music Festival held on Friday night in the community hall by the school scholars was a real success. Those who attended and who were in- terested in music heard something they will not soon forget. Those who were not present missed a very plea- sant and: interesting evening, Mrs. Parsons, the singing teacher, was in charge, assisted by Miss Smith. Mrs, Parsons is teach- ing her pupils to play the mouth or- gah by note, and three numbers were played, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Parsons. Rhythm demonstration by both seniors and Juniors showed how the value of the notes is taught. The little juniors pleaséd the audience by singing six delightful short songs. Beverley Stewart recited, "Polly buys a hat". An action song, "Fishin", by four_boys in suitable costume, was well done. Mrs. Parsons gave a work demonstration which made music and singing so interesting that it is no wonder that the pupils love to learn them, The chairman of the school board, Mr. Frank Booth, ex- pressed appreciation of Mrs. Parsons' work, but regretted there were not more parents and-ratepayers present to see and hear the evening's enter- tainment.-- It is a work that is really worth while and is getting splendid results. Audrey Grant recited "A déar little Goose" and following this, on behalf of the pupils, little Doris May Heron and Patsy Lunney pre- sented Mrs. Parsons with a flower vase. The festival closed with two verses of each of "Unto the Hills" and "Abide with Me", sung by the "| seniors. Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Northey and Miss Ethel Hobbs of Oshawa called on friends on Saturday. Mr. Hinde and son Jack of Toronto visited on Saturday with Dick. Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Stredwick and family of Oshawa were Sunday visit- ors with relatives. A large number of relatives, close friends and former neighbours of the late Mrs. Nelson Gilroy gathered at Pine Grove Cemetery on Saturday afternoon to pay final respect to her whom they loved and so highly es- teemed. Mr. and Mrs, Nelson Gilroy resided in Myrtle many yedrs ago un- til the death of Mrs. Gilroy's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Netherton, when they moved to the homestead on the townline, There they farmed until Mr. Gilroy's death, some ten years ago, Mrs, Gilroy then went to live with her daughter in 'Toronto, and where she passed away on Thurs- day afternoon after a lingering ill- ness. Surviving are Oscar, who is farming in the Oakwood district, and Lola, Mrs. Price, of Toronto, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Rev. R. H. Wylie of Columbus conducted the service at the graveside. Mr. and Mrs. P. 1. Bentley and Mr. and Mrs. E. Ball of Millbrook were Sunday callers at the parsonage. Denny of Prince Albert, con- ducted the church service on Sunday afternoon, He chose I King 17:2-9 for his text. - One day last week dogs worried a flock of sheep belonging to Mr. Alan Downey, killing one and injuring about fifteen. Six of these were so badly hurt that they had to be put out of their misery. Fortunately Alan was able-tp kill one of the dogs, but the other breed. No doubt they will repeat the offence unless they are shut up, - Rev. G. S. Gervan was in Port Hope last week attending the Bay of Quinte Conference meeting. Among those ordained to the ministry on June 9th, was Floyd Honey, son of Rev. W. E. and Mrs. Honey, of Cavan, a former pastor, on the Myrtle Charge. Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Bunker and Joy, of Oshawa, Mrs. Joseph Green- tree of Harmony called on relatives on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Ed. Carmichael of Florida, is with his sister, Mrs, Innis Grant. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Harrison, Mrs. R. Long and Dorothy McCartney visited with friends in Cannington on Sunday. _ The Faithful Workers' S. 8. Class held the regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. O. H. Lane, on Wed- nesday evening of last week. Mrs. G. S. Gervan, president, conducted the worship service and the business period. The class voted $6.00 to the Myrtle branch of the Red Cross. Each member contributed a number on the program which followéd and a pleas- ant social evening was enjoyed. Mrs. R. Percy assisted Mrs. Lane with the krefreshments served at the close of the evening. No more meetings un- til September.
